4. Standard big star weapons
3. 5 Star special weapons
2. Big star weapons earned using the "battlefield bonus" option. I've never seen one, but supposedly their compatibility goes up to +99
1. Crafted X weapons from gauntlet mode. Also +99 compatibility, but higher base numbers, even 99+99
Also, some, maybe all, big star weapons have special properties attached to them. Some grant extra range, some do other stuff. This is apparently not listed ANYWHERE in the game, and I couldn't even find a list online. Might even just be hearsay for all I know.
Thank you for taking the time to share this :) its a shame i have to do a side mode for the better weapons but i might consider it guess it depends how long id have to play gauntlet to get them. might just stick with my 5 star weapons as i already feel overpowered even on hard mode :p
I thought the same, but gauntlet mode is kinda more interesting than I thought. It defaults to controlling a squad of 5 at once and has whole new team formation mechanics and special moves. I haven't gotten too far into it yet so not sure how long the novelty lasts.
It gets old pretty fast due to having to clear it THREE TIMES just to access the purple keystone stages. They're no different from red stages aside from being 8* (and thus being able to get Ultimate items at +20) and starting at high enough miasma that X mats and orbs will start dropping immediately.
The 1* DLC Gauntlet stages are the absolute best XP levelling stages in the game though.
1. Standard 4 Star weapons.
2. Standard Big Star weapons.
3. Standard Mystic Weapons.
4. High bonus Big Star weapons (gotten randomly from Otherworld Invaders at high miasma, sell them to get tons of crystals fast).
5. +81 bonus 4 star weapons (can be gotten from Battlefield Bonuses, needs to be at least 7 star difficulty on Hard).
6. +81 bonus Mystic Weapons (can be earned from the DLC gauntlet stage on Koshi Castle, there's youtube vids for it, these weapons count towards the achievements too).
7. X Weapons (have +99 at max compatibility).
Sorry whats a X weapon? need a bit more explanation on that one
Edit: I should warn you though....have a decently equipped and leveled team (I had basic mystic weapons at the time). Also Hundan heals himself until all the other bosses are defeated.
The +81 Mystic Weapons can be mass farmed after one playthrough of Gauntlet Mode. Getting one for every character gets you an achievement (by far the fastest method to get said achievement). They can (usually) be gotten before crafting X Weapons becomes possible, and are only like 5 points weaker.
The high bonus Big Star weapons are just there to pad your Gems and Crystals totals xD
X Weapons are crafted at the Blacksmith.
They have the same model and name as 4-star Weapons with an X on the end, and are categorised as 5-star Weapons.
You have to craft them using materials you get from defeating Famous (playable) Officers in Gauntlet Mode. They will either drop a Sworn Ally item, which allows you to play as them once you summon them from the Mystic Girl back at the Camp, or a unique X Weapon crafting item (for example, Yukimura drops "Six Coins" in reference to the Sanada clan crest).
From what I've seen you need two of these and another item to craft their X Weapon, and their X Weapon won't appear on the Craft Weapon screen until you get a least one of them.
They seem to be the best weapons in the game, with a very high base Power stat and +99 with full Compatibility.
I absolutely hated Gauntlet Mode at first, my best advice is to actually ignore enemies for the first couple of stages, fight what you can but focus on finding dragon portals and chests. Don't kill everything in sight. You can reuse dragon portals indefinitely to clear some more miasma.
Formations are also very important, I would use Scout formations early on, that way you're not all grouped together so when Lu Bu uses his Musou you don't all die. Scout formations also uncover a lot of the map and you can switch characters quickly to get to different parts of the area. You only lose in Gauntlet Mode if all 5 of your characters are dead at once. Characters who've died come back about 20 to 30 seconds later.
Otherwise keep them spread out so if one dies, you'll switch to another. Generally speaking in Scout formations the AI controlled members won't take much damage if at all, but their pathfinding can be really bad. Also make a beeline for purple Dragon Portals as these give you EXP Fever. That's the only time I'd recommend actually killing as many as you can. Unlike Story Mode you can get EXP Fever multiple times in a stage, once from each purple portal and from generic officers (not enemy types, but named officers that aren't playable, like Shamoke and Chen Gong).
Once you start getting characters Promoted, getting some X Weapons and learning how Gauntlet Mode works it becomes a lot more fun.
