scryer map cache?

the desc of the scryer formation mentioned something like "must be active the entire map to earn dark essence from cache". do I need like the large (or small) cache modifier to get dark essence from map or nah? I tried googling the wiki but didnt mention anything about being able to get dark essence from maps.

the description says. you have to activate it for the full fight to get dark essence and ressources bonus from enemys on zones. and in maps you have to activate it the full map to get a bonus on your caches. it dosent say you get dark essence from maps.

right now where i am there is no chance to get dark essece from maps. only some enemys in zones can drop it. to recieve it you have to start the fight with "s" formation on.

It's so you can't switch to S on the last enemy and get double loot from a cache. Have to go through the whole map in S for that.
