Regarding Xiaotong, I think she should have appeared in the DLC. Among the three main girls, she has the least screen time, so this could have been a perfect opportunity to give her more presence in the narrative. It feels like a missed opportunity.
However, the core issue for me lies in how lifeless the companions are during the main story. They simply follow you around and aid you in battle, without reacting to any of the main story's events. This really breaks immersion for me. In contrast, sidequests like the Sweetspring Village arc are more engaging because companions not only comment on the events but can also influence their outcomes.
I vividly remember a moment during the main story when I battled Yin Wujin with Frost Condor in my party. I thought to myself, "This would be the perfect time for Frost Condor to say something to your Shifu." But alas, there was no reaction. It's puzzling, especially since Yin Wujin acknowledges the events of Skylinemont in that encounter. A simple line of dialogue for Frost Condor would have sufficed. The same could have been done for Xiaotong and Eb Yil regarding the DLC events.
I'm hopeful that update 3 of the future development roadmap will address these issues. Fingers crossed, because this game is truly awesome.
And also, one more thing, the Xuanhou cult involve with the Yuan army that want to start a war so the storyline could have the Imperial guard guys (Zhao An and his subordinates) reappear to deal with political affairs (Leng Wuqing also promises to assist them at the end of Nanjiang event for something gonna happen).
Every time I see and play games with many recruitable characters I always think back to Suikoden 2 on the PS1. Nearly all of the 108 recruitable characters played a role in the big picture. Not always mind you, the game is quite old and didn't have the tech to fully implement their vision. But the characters still felt alive and like a part of the story itself, rather than just some random passerby watching from the sidelines and only helping out in battle.
I really hope that the developers improve this aspect of the game the most. Why else have so many playable characters with rich story backgrounds and possible interactions?
