Can someone explain all the Legacy rules?
I have played quite a lot but I still have 0 understanding on how Legacy works. Can someone explain? Is it just replacement? What does it do in buildings? What happens if I upgrade the area?

As far as I know it does absolutely nothing unless something specifically says it interacts with it, like the Coal bioticum gaining extra yields for Legacy plants. I assume (hope) this game gets expansions, either in free updates or paid DLC, and maybe they will add more interaction with Legacy. So far I think Coal is literally the only thing I have encountered in the game that uses it, which seems like a complete waste of a game mechanic.

If something is Legacy it means basically the benefits are frozen and do not change in the future. If you Upgrade a Planet Patch and its 2 Tiles, everything that was on this 2 Tiles before the Upgrade becomes Legacy and the Food/Technology/Gold still counts no matter what you place there after the upgrade, for symbiosis the old tile is gone though. For City Bonus things it works similar, if you advance from the 1st to the 2nd Era the bonuses from the 1st Era become Legacy and you have them no matter what. If you advance to the 3rd Era the ones from the 2nd become Legacy.

That's at least how i understand it so far. Not sure if that was understandable. :D If someone knows better feel free to correct me. :)

Projects have different goals that gives rewards if you satisfy them.

Say the Woodcutter project wants something like 3/4 Trees to reward 40/100 Tech.

If you have 4 trees you get 100 tech.

If you then go into a new Era, that project is turned into a Legacy project. Which means that you no longer need any trees whatsoever to keep the 100 tech bonus from the Woodcutter project --- you can safely upgrade the patches that had trees on them and replace with them something else.

This means that it's optimal to satisfy the projects of all your towns before heading into a new era to enjoy the free resources they will give even as you remove their relevant biotica.

If you upgrade an area and it has some biotica on, the biotica are removed but not what they were producing. Those are saved to their slot, so if the previous biotica gave 30 tech and 10 gold, and the new one you place gives 100 food, then the total of the new placement is 30 tech, 10 gold and 100 food.

This means you're free to upgrade patches with old biotica to save space and get rid of old, lower tier biotica.

and a note, if you managed to input a +1 biodiversity micro, and the slot becomes legacy, it carries over as well

if you upgrade an area then those resources/biotica are saved to their respective spot.

If you click on an empty tile or biotica that should have a Legacy biotica on it, there should be a small icon close to it on the left that shows said Legacy.

On this tile I have 2 legacy resources. I first upgraded the area to tier 2 once I reached Era 2 which saved a Charoite mineral, adding 15 Gold and 1 Mystery to the tile.

Then I upgraded to tier 3 for the purpose of this screenshot which saved a Sulfur mineral adding 150 Tech and 2 Rugged to the tile.

Then the new tier 3 biotica I placed, the Stellar Sea Eagle, adds 140 gold and 2 Biodiversity to the tile.

This gives the total benefit of all 3 resources on one tile.

It is not required to place a new resource on top of a legacy resource to gain the benefits of it. It's saved to the tile regardless of whether it's empty or filled.
