Which is why "Red Whip" is one of the single best T2 biotica to nab for the PQ. With full adjacency bonuses (fairly easy to reach: x4 distinct biotica surrounding RW) it yields 95 food and 38 mystery. Remember what I said about mystery and the PQ? That 38 mystery is 342 total points. Then add in the base 95 food to get 437 total points, largely food and gold, from a single biotica.
Then if you started as PQ a single fish nearby gives that red whip +50% mystery... which brings it up to 57. That brings the red whip up to 608 total points.
As for gold, that would be 285 just from a food based plant! Ofc, there is also 209 food and 114 science. All from a single biotica.
Go ocean shrine to start you off with 15 mystery. Then add in the sea anemone and clownfish. The amber as well. Most of these will be fodder for the Red Whip's adjacency bonuses, but all grant a bit of additional mystery.
And again, if your starting spirit is PQ be sure to space out the fish to ensure everything is getting bonus gold/mystery.
And to make things properly thematic... make sure to grab the pirate ship as well! This is T3 past your question, but It has a PER PLANET mystery bonus for gems. So hopefully you have the merchant/painter/goddess going gem crazy somewhere else.
And mystery will get stupid high in the process... which the PQ absolutely loves.
Oh, as far as your T1 biotica draft... you can go either way with pearls or tuna. I prefer pearls if I'm aiming for the RW. Food isn't too hard to reach if you go ocean shrine and drop a couple things like herring/kelp. THe mystery really does add up.
If you miss a strong source of mystery in the draft, the Marlin gives strong, although flat, amounts of gold and food. +100 of each per Marlin just for having a large ocean is not to be sniffed at.
