Picking a spirit that buffs animals is a must and you kind of have to plan your biomes for it also (ocean, savannah, ice age are good ones). If you are struggling and just want to get the 3 star I would recommend using the shop to buy extra eon and maybe a microbe charge at the end to get yourself over the line.
Overall the game is easier, but the temples etc don’t really kick in until the later era and the 50% on plants is too harsh a penalty IMO. You just don’t have diversity or power in animals until you can put 2 stars down to do this easily.
The main benefit of Hunter Age is that all animal biotica are permanently buffed after you finish even as the plant debuff expires. So, again, it's pretty strong if you start with the huntress.
The PQ is also of note, as all predators under the PQ gain 50% bonus gold/mystery. This doesn't help through the Hunter Age as much as the Huntress, but if you are running with the PQ first then you should focus on predators (and animals in general) and the hunter Age would still buff those.
The general, huntress, pirate, goddess, and villain suit to this plan.
