3000 hours in ARMA3 first impressions with Reforger after amost 6 hours
Well THANKS totally to release a successor of ARMA and include trackir!!! and release it today!
In the try of a new thing, there is always the love to see the new things but respect the old ones. It is a sensation of love/hate of features, but always is good to see advance in the horizon.From what I have heard from my ARMA3 group, they think it is a path backwards losing several functionality, and they are scared that this converts more to a Squad-Console semi milsim game. I think there has been a mistake of BI, not including for example an single player showcase mission, to show the capabilities of the new engine (maybe still that is not possible with the new AI)After playing for almost 6 hours this is my first impressions:

BAD THINGS in ARMA Reforger: 
1. We lose motion positions. Not be able to roll while on ground. No possible lean more to the sides as ARMA3. No possible change of weapon to the other hand to show less of the body as ARMA3. It is not possible to have a medium elevation position between crouch and laydown like ARMA3 where we just sit down and aim.

2. We lose control with our joysticks or controllers. No way of assigning for example an axis of my pedals to the lean Q-E functions. No way to be able to choose my extra button 4-5 of the mouse to speak or show the compass as in ARMA3.

3. (this can be bad, or good) AI is completed? I mean, I can put some AI and they react, but I do not know if a mission with triggers and patrol areas can be set in ARMA Reforger. That is a must for continuing the dream of playing with this new engine.

4. The sensation that this is a DAYZ transfer into war. I never liked the way the characters move in DAYZ, and this is the same. The motion is not fluid between stages.

5 We lose 5000m of distance viewing. We had 10000 in ARMA3 and I would like to see plus24km or even 100km distance viewing from top, to make a decent plane simulation in future.

6. with 3 screens (5760x1080) I cannot change FOV. 40º is the same as 90º even reloading the game.

GOOD THINGS:
1. TRACKIR included since the beginning!! Still it does some strange things looking totally up but it is there!!

2. There are new actions such as jump, scale walls, quick descend ladders, speeds with mouse wheel, point to direction with hand, that there wasn't before in ARMA3 and needed a mod.

3. Include a self radio and talk with people that work! It is not the best I have seen, but for sure we will see TFR or ACRE2 do their magic.

4. My lord!! What illumination!! It is gorgeous to have a sun rising between forests!!! INCREDIBLE! And the night is amazing with those loooong shadows projected from cars

5. Raining forms pools and makes wet surfaces! They are great!!

6. Vehicles!!! amazing job!! The only issue for me is losing the option to steer with mouse motion as in ARMA 3

7. The sound!! THE SOUND!!!

8. The inclusion of mods in real time and zeus is great to have it as it is!

9. We can carry 2 weapons on our back (as dayz) and smoke barriers and effects are better than ARMA 3. 

10. I have 3 screens and the Sight zoom PIP was always broken. NOW IT WORKS!!!! (they have some kind of artifact looking closer). This means scope sights as Tarkov. Zoom in sight, rest not zoomed to be aware of enemies coming

11. It has a construction system that for sure is not as good as Squad... BUT Squad don't have the extent of map size, and the AI to make cooperative. Have to say that I like Squad, but it is a totally different game.

12. This I have to trust is good. 256 players on servers??????? I cannot imagine a co-op against AI, with such a number of players in the same army.


I was making a live show. It was 7 hours, and some people were upset, the same as when it came to MSFS and they didn't have their study level aircrafts. Now they have them and they are amazed. It has to be seen if it is possible, but if the modders can transfer Altis, Takistan, Tanoa, Sog Prairie Fire, give us mod armies as RHS or CUPs and put TFR or ACRE2, plus and ACE2... who is going to be playing ARMA3 more? If that happens, then we will have an ARMA3.5 until we reach the road to arma4. Meanwhile I am sure that most of the bad things will be sorted, as that was what happened with ARMA3 at the beginning.
Thanks for the great effort and job!!! and especially not releasing a year ago about this product so we didn't have to wait for it!!!

Ahhhh and I forgot!!! WHAT A MUSIC!!!
(antistasi I think will fit great in this one!! hope the creator converts to AR)

To your point, this is literally a DayZ sequel. It's built on the same engine, which is different than the A3 engine which is why it is lacking a lot of A3 features. I can only hope that they manage to add back A3 features to the new engine.
at the rate they ported things in dayz, they should have arma 4 finished in 2035 :steamthumbsup:
i think all mods made in reforge will probably work in arma 4
