O.G. Operation Flashpoint Player has Questions

Hello,

I started playing Operation Flashpoint as a Demo over 21 years ago now? Something to that effect. I enjoyed the game and was part of the original "VetSquad" (used to mean something but nobody probably remembers it now). I stumbled across a video about this game on Youtube and was curious if any "O.G." players are still around and if they like this game. How does it compare to OFP? Thanks for the feedback.

I see. Thank you tomo. I'm so old school I've never used twitter but I'll take your word for it. One other question if I may; is there a sandbox element to it as in the original OFP? Creating custom scenarios was what I did the most of back then and was hoping to do some more in a newly polished looking "Everon."

It doesn't. It's even more broken and has 1/10th of the OG content. 22 years later.

I like that it still got a realistic night/day/month/year cycle with various weather conditions. And a (?realistic?) star constellation and moving moon, like we got in OFP. I wonder if there are tides?
Typical OFP/Arma series style, the lighting system got improved a lot again! Looks very nice and the automatic eye adaption is one of the best ive seen.

This is what i really dont like. Grass/vegetation can only be set to 150m or so, which
1.) should really be able to be set much higher than that in the options!
2.) should be locked to max distance anyways on every server by default.
Same as #2 should be applied to shadows too. That would make the gameplay more realistic due to hiding in shadow/vegetation applies to everyone then and thus be a lot more fair too.

"OG" ofp and VBS player here.

Im really loving where Reforger is going and the tech is above and beyond OFP!

But, this is an exploratory piece of work and shouldnt be compared on a 1 to 1 basis with a full Arma game.

Its worth keeping an eye on and theres fun to be had but its not a "finished" game by any means.

So, it might be worth looking at buying but really make sure you know what you are getting into.

I started with the OFP Demo back in the fall of 2001. I've owned and heavily played every title since. I have to say even with its current struggles, Reforger is a diamond in the rough. Most of the major issues that kept the game from really shining upon release have been mostly fixed have steadily improved with every iteration. As an old school OFP Vet like yourself, and hardcore ARMA player thru the years, I would encourage you to pick up a copy and let us know your thoughts on the current vision BIS has for the future of the ARMA Universe.

One last thing. ARMA 2 and ARMA 3 are both great successors of the OG Flashpoint.
However if you miss the simplicity and setting of the OFP: CWC and Resistance, there's Cold War Rearmed III and other mod projects to bring it back to life in the ARMA 3 enviro

Thank you for your kind replies. I couldn't find the thread as some Mod moved it. I had to go back into the community tab and figure out where the anal retentive kid put the thing. LOL!

Vetsquad, eh? FNG and some of the other guys still play OFP and ArmA 2 from time to time but I don't think anybody really plays Reforger. There is a Vetsquad Steam Group with 14 members, you should look it up and join. If you check my Steam profile you should be able to find it.

DUDES! This is kinda wild lol. I still play Arma 2 a bit and have been trying to get Nemesis back on too. Hope y'all see this. Hit me up sometime and we can see if we can get the band back together
