New Computer on the way

I’ve been playing this on a three year old gaming Laptop; an MSI GE66 Raider with an i9 11980HK w/ 32GB of DDR4 RAM and a NVidia RTX 3080 w/ 32GB. I get high 40s/low 50s FPS with some things turned down a little.

New computer is a desktop i9 14900KF with 32GB DDR5 and a RTX 4090 with 24GB.

What kind of performance improvement should I see? 100 FPS?

Well it depends on the resolution you play at. at 4k I would likely say 80-100 fps on max settings.

At 1440p I would probably say 180+ fps on max settings.

If I was you I would have waited until the new RTX 5000 series cards came out in February before I upgraded.

Have you tried setting Enviromental quality to low? It slightly changes the sky textures but can give you a significant FPS boost. I get around 90-140 FPS with everything on high, no AA, and Terrain Details set to low.

Also, the first thing you should do when you get the new PC is update the BIOS. It might slightly reduce CPU performance, but at least it’ll prevent voltage overshoots that could fry your CPU in a few months. ( I9s from last two gens have massive issues killing itself)

I have heard of problems also but the most common fix is to change the bios settings to what is recommended for the chip by Intel. Seems to have fixed the vast majority of issues.

You can try to disable Power Throttling in windows. So your CPU will use P-CORE instead of only the E-CORE.

Good question. Not familiar with AMD and Radeon. I could have gotten this for $800 cheaper. Pretty much identical specs except for the CPU and GPU;

32GB DDR5 RAM 6000 RGB

Take advice from someone who has built five (5) Intel based custom gaming rigs - Do not go with Intel. The socket types change with every new generation, and with how quickly graphics processors are increasing in performance, you are destined to end up with a bottle-necked GPU in a few years, or less.

Take my current situation for example: i have a 4090, and 11900K. It's currently bottle-necking my GPU, and if I want to upgrade then I need to replace my 1) Motherboard, 2) CPU, 3) RAM, 4) Power supply, and 5) Custom EK loop.

In contrast, from what I understand, AMD will support AM5 through 2026 or 2027. Meaning in 2027 you can get the best generation CPU on the same socket you have today, giving you a few years from 2027 until that CPU starts to bottle-neck the next best GPU.

Just my thoughts.

Can't fix a defect product, it'll detoriate even with the BIOS hotfix.

That is very true. That’s why I switched my 14900k for the and 9800x3d
