Arma Reforger

Arma Reforger

View Stats:
Severe Game Stutters and completely unflat Frametime.
I am currently suffering from very bad Frametimes from this Graph. Just as clearance I will note down what Hardware I have and which Windows Version I am using:

i5-13500,
2x 32GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16,
RTX 3070 8GB (Undervolted to 1890mhz - 190W max.) - I have tested without undervolt no change at all
Windows 10 21H2 (Build 19044.1288)

I have the FPS locked to 60 on a Resolution of 2880x2160 * 80%.

At no point or time do I exceed the limits of my Hardware. My GPU and CPU sit below 60% in general.

How comes I have such horrible Stutter issues with this game?

What storage device is the game installed on? You need something very fast to play this game. I have most of my games installed on a USB external HD and they work just fine. But I had screen shutters also with Reforger and moved the game to the internal SSD and now it plays like butter.

does your ram works at 3200mhz?
download gpu-z check at memory the DRAM Frequency
it should show 1600mhz ( or something very close) cuz 2x 1600 = 3200mhz
if it shows 1200mhz or something similar you need enable XMP 1 in bios.

I have it on my Main C Drive which is a Western Digital Blue Edition 2TB M.2 PCiE Storage drive. Does around 5000MBit/s seq read and 6000MBit/s seq write.

Yes it does. I have this system for quite a while now, that wasn't ever the issue.
Are you experiencing this on vanilla or modded? Is there server packet loss?

Modded Server (KotH). I have only microstutter and rarely severe Stutters on private training camp launch. Haven't started a vanilla match yet.
I don't think it's solely you. I've been getting horrendous stutters out of nowhere. It's so incessant that it's making me not want to play.

I think there's a horrid memory leak and/or classification of memory leaks that are hitting certain hardware architectures worse than others.

Yeah might just be something else. Despite this though I am saving cash for a 4TB M.2 Drive. When I get It I will do fresh install anyway with dual boot to Linux and Windows 10 21H2.

i recently solved a very similar issue, and i'm wondering if this might work for you.

do you store your windows documents folder on a different drive to that of reforger? in my case, i have a partition on my M.2 SSD that i install games to, and then my documents folder is stored on a hard drive.

i was having issues with severe hitching and constant stuttering, but on modded servers only, vanilla servers were fine. i assumed it was loading/streaming issues, which would probably be related to my SSD's health, but after trying everything i was kinda stumped, my SSD is healthy and my computer is more than powerful enough otherwise. i then had the idea that maybe steam had installed the mods to the wrong steam library folder or something, and when i went to investigate that i connected the dots; this game, unlike arma 3, has it's own mod installation system, which is totally fine and necessary for console modding to be a thing, but what i didn't realize until searching it up on the internet, is by default the game will install all of your mods to a folder in your "\Documents\my games\ArmaReforger" folder, which in my case is on a hard drive.

i followed the instructions in the second to top comment in this thread, made a folder for my mods on my SSD partition, and then moved my addons folder over from its previous location in my documents folder. you want to make sure that you're only copying the addons folder itself into the root directory of wherever you want your mods to go, you dont need to move the 'logs' and 'profile' folders. in my case the path on my SSD looks like this: "z:\ReforgerMods\addons" with the addons folder being the one you copy over from your documents that contains all of the mod files. i also deleted the addons folder (NOT the other folders next to it) in the "\Documents\my games\ArmaReforger" folder for good measure, just to be sure the game cant load anything from there, though i dont think that's really necessary.

i still had slight issues with stuttering upon starting back up, but things on modded servers were obviously loading a lot faster, and the stutters were better. after restarting again however, (i dont know if it took more than one restart because even with the more minor issues i ended up playing for hours), everything was loading as fast as you'd expect it to, i.e instantly or nearly instantly, and my game has been completely smooth ever since.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it wasn't the case. The mods were already on Drive C: which is a 2TB M.2 Drive with 6 gigabit read and write seq. There is no Hard Drive attached to my system. I need to save up a little cash to get a new Drive, because I can't reset this one. I will most likely just do a Reinstall of Windows and also go for Dual Boot this time with Linux Mint.

I already did that fix on like 3 different drives no dice I think it's out of date mods cause the workshop is currently closed for uploads
One thing to check: Your mouse polling rate. Mine stutters horribly with the default 1000 /s polling rate every time I touch the mouse. Dropping it to 500 or 250 helped.
