In terms of gameplay it's a mixed bag. It can be action packed one sec and then dead the next. The whole point of the match is to experience it in the moment. It's less about winning /losing the match and more about the experience. There is also much more freedom and types of servers than squad so it doesn't all fit nicely into some packaged gaming experience.
What exactly are you looking for in this experience is the biggest question you need to ask yourself.
What appeals to me in the Arma series is the lack of "boarders" and unclimnable cliffs that the other games use to funnel the action to specific choke points/events.
to me, the battlescape evolves more naturally in the Arma series in a way that's reminiscent of reality compared to the artificial (although often fun) channelling of other titles.
This has caveats though, as one can get stranded if one isnt careful and other games are often easier to "have a quick blast" in.
Reforger is not really lacking for depth, which naturally takes it away from the casual tag somewhat ...
But It does not matter how much depth the game has, when the people you will be playing the game with (and against) render everything down so it becomes a Battlefield game, just like SQUAD, only more receptive to the lonewolf playstyle. Every single problem that SQUAD has in terms of teamwork and the lack of it, is present here.
If you want to play Reforger in a less casual manner or in the most simple term possible, as a team, you gotta find a server which strives to offer that kind of environment or you go private ... just like SQUAD.
And just to put this in perspective, I enjoy Reforger more than SQUAD, but this is in spite of the players, not because of them.
There are elements of reforger that are not casual friendly. Such as the absence of live markers where you and your teammates are on the map.
But the overall gunplay and gameplay is.
The recoil system in ArmA is much better and therefore less clunky compared to squad. But everyone is also way tankier compared to squad. Next to that is the horrible netcode which lets you suck a lot of bullets as well as the enemy which results in a lot of dancing around each other while reloading. This usually gives time for other teammates to jump into the often +3 seconds long gunfights (from 5 meters distance) which is one of the greatest indicators that you have a casual game.
ArmA: Reforger is a true BI title. And BI took years to add a server queue into the ArmA series. Do not expect a lot of quality of life features which SQUAD had. Everything is usually a bit more complicated than it should be.
