It's console friendly so it's not a 'complicated ' as Arma 3. All in all I say anyone who is into military sims should absolutely pick this up.
Start at a base, run logistics, cap said base and move on. It's exactly like it only that squad pigeon holds you into their game.
And as much of a shell of a game that reforger is it clearly outshines everything else on the market.
Identity crisis? How so?
One of my favorites is Wasteland (3 Teams, one map, loot spawned around similar to PUBG, and each team can build bases and do whatever they want since there is no objective. Just side missions, loot, and player interactions). In addition, one of the teams is "independent" so that team is only independent squads, which are only teamed with their squad. This just adds to the chaos of this mode. For the most part, people just shoot to kill before talking.
King of the Hill is also awesome if you want quick PvP (3 teams, bases close together, all fighting over a point on the map). However, it can quickly become imbalanced if one team is stacked with better players.
I'd say give it a try if you liked Squad, just keep in mind the game isn't as "structured" as Squad. Its much more sandbox like especially when playing modded game modes, but that is what I find the most fun on the Arma games.
The game has next to zero mechanics to facilitate coordination, tactics and teamwork between players when on foot. Most players just join a team and solo objectives or play with a couple of friends similar to how battlefields plays but with much slower pace and vast distances between points.
Quite often you'll see 20+ squads many with only a single player in a 128 slot server but even in full squads there will be zero people talking.
Vehicles are also walled off behind XP gain where the most effective way to unlock them is by running supplies in a truck to the nearest point, which can take about an hour before you can unlock a helicopter. What coordination does occur is random nerds in Platoon chat either roll playing or asking for transportation with no discipline on it's use which is why I assume many just turn off their radios to stop the spam.
The controls aren't too bad after you've tweaked them but took me about an hour to really sort them out how I like to play.
Every time I log on I get in with a team. I use comms and head to the objective and link up. I didn't have any of these problems you all speak of. I didn't get team killed, I didn't have people screaming nonsense etc..
1700 hrs in Arma 3, mainly on public servers and it was the same thing. You come across the occasional idiot but it's not the norm in my case not has it ever been.
About the only mechanic in the game that facilitates coordinated attacks is the Command Truck similar to Post Scriptum (aka Squad 44).
If you are expecting anything like Arma it’s extremely limited, especially in equipment and content. Its basically a tutorial with a few very limited single player scenarios and that’s just about it. The gameplay is pretty fun but its not nearly with 40 Euro for what it provides. I had hopes there was more in multiplayer & mods. But their, at least for now is extremely limited. Feels more like a quick cash grab more then anything else. I asked for a refund.
