As far as the gameplay loop, cant really say there is one. With the amount of mods that are out there, plus all the ones to be made in the future, this game has tons of replayability .
Hope this helps.
If your team doesn't communicate, you lose.
If there is not someone organizing the circus your faction becomes inoperative.
Ambushes are 100% effective , 90% of the time.
No GPS.
This game isn't like the other entries into the series. I like to say it's because Arma Reforger actually put a game into the game.
In things like arma 3 or 2, you pretty much rely on the editor, a couple preset campaigns (not even dynamic lmao), and basic multiplayer deathmatch modes. People in the arma community historically always loved to hype the game up as this unique experience, but outside of mods, the games were very barebones.
Mods have always been a big part of the community, and they are great; many offer different experiences, with mixed results. Absolutely, if someone enjoys having to press 3 buttons across the keyboard 4 times to navigates a 3d menu in space just to pick the correct bandage to help their buddy who is spurting blood from his jugular, ACE for arma 3 is a grand experience.
If you don't think that sounds fun, Reforger is worth a shot; this game retains plenty of realism mechanics (bleeding, hit location, being knocked out etc,) but doesn't overwhelm you. It's simple - multiple bleeds, put on a tourniquet and start bandaging, then remove tourniquet. Press 5 to equip bandage, press r to bandage, done. It's that simple.
The Reforger - Conflict game mode is what I would call the main game. It's again, pretty simple. 2 teams, starting semi-randomly on the map. Lots of different bases around the map your team needs to cap, on their way to the pink objectives. Capture enough pink, and your team starts a victory countdown. You spawn at any of these bases, provided you have supplies and a relay station built at them. There are some overt, and some hidden supply caches scattered around the map to be transported to bases. The more supplies, the more ♥♥♥♥, kits, and ai you can deploy. These are the main objectives, essentially - get some pink.
How you help your team is up to you. Want to drive a truck? Deploy one, ♥♥♥♥ around with the map, explode a few times while you learn the inertia, take several wrong turns into a few ambushes you may or may not survive, and so on. Logi work in this game can be pretty exciting at times.
Want to fly a heli? Bozo, do some logi runs first before you blow our supplies, otherwise have at it. Spam the platoon radio chat endlessly asking people if they want a ride, or begging them to stop trying to shoot you down.
Want to just mindlessly fight at the front? Good, get in big truck at main, we aren't stopping until we run the first enemy over (you won't survive the ride).
Tired of the enemy spamming helis? Good, grab a radio pack from an arsenal, deploy a jeep, and plan your route to enemy territory. Once you've found where their helis are being deployed, set your little radio spawn point up, and become a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nuisance. Probably one of my personal favorite things to do.
Bullets pen things, including wood and tents. Don't stand in a tent window thinking you're safe - you aren't.
Reforger gives you a basic ruleset, then lets you figure out how you want to achieve the objectives. The more creative you are, the better.
This game is a milsim, but it is also a game, and a fun one at that. Absolutely worth a try, especially if you find yourself wanting to "make a difference" in ways that aren't explicitly apparent on the team map.
