Map Location and Directions - Improvement Idea
Hello. :steamhappy:

It would be great if the Map got an update.

By that, I mean to make it much easier to find your way around and know which direction you're going.

A bit like the game Squad, where you can see your teammates more precisely on the map.

Of course, it's for realism, but triangulating every 5 to 10 minutes to know where you are and where you're going is really annoying.

I think something like this would attract a lot of players.

Because during my evenings, I noticed that many players create a solo squad so they can ALL see each other on the map.

There's a real need among players for this.

It would be so much more fun too!

Thanks.

whats the point of the game then at that point?

Being fun.
It’s supposed to be hard as it is a milsim. Learn to navigate or play on servers that show you on the map.

It is weird that you can see the other squad leaders but not yourself even if you are a squad leader but it is likely an attempt to keep everyone from making their own squad. I’d be fine with them taking away squad leaders being displayed on the map.

The PLGR (GPS) was not introduced until 1990 and they were pretty rare through 2000 or so, rare in the sense that there is no way every squad is going to get one. Plus, it tells you where YOU are, it doesn’t tell you where other people are.

PLRS did come out in 1987 but it weighed 23 pounds and required a base station and were not fielded at the squad level. It would show you where other friendly units were. Would you carry a backpack PLRS to see yourself and the other squad leaders if that was all you could carry on your back? But if they don’t want to carry one then you can’t see them.

So it is realistic for the time period. But honestly, if you learn land navigation in game it is realistic enough that you will be able to do it in real life.

Good point, but after a hard day's work and a great desire to relax, I think that most people do not want to waste time doing this maneuver all the time.
They shouldn't even show the squad leaders' positions on the map, IMHO.
I think it should be optional at the very least. I do get frustrated when I die and suddenly I’m searching for my squad lead on the map and there’s 30 blue “envelopes” moving around I have to click one at a time to figure out where my boys went.

Or flying with someone and no one in the chopper is a squad lead so you can’t see anyone on board and sometimes don’t know exactly where you land. Yes I can kind of triangulate and figure it out, but not without a little bit of being lost, running through the woods until I see a landmark.
Use a compass and read street signs.

It's another method?

At least we start with a compass and map. DayZ, depending on the server, you got nothing except maybe rags or bandages, maybe just maybe a tiny piece of food and a glow stick.
'I think something like this would attract a lot of players.'
More of the kind of players who are better off playing Battlefield???

The squad system for vanilla is definitely very flawed, especially since people spawn wherever so squads are arbitrary or people go for 1 man squads so they can see themselves on the map. Better to have an autolink system so radio and squads reallocate based on approximate position, you want to communicate and work with the guys you are actually next to, not 10 random people on every corner of the map (and a full squad is vilely rare in vanilla).

ArmA titles are just not the kind of games you want to play then. And that's okay, by the way.
