does the game work well on steam deck?
thinking about buying but only if it's on steam deck. i know it says "unsupported" but i have watched several yt videos and read reviews on protondb and its all positive. can anyone who has experience playing the game on steam deck tell me if it's worth it?

I mean, I don't see how anyone telling you here about it is any better than the youtube videos and reviews, if it's fine for them it should be fine for you

I have a desktop and steamdeck. It runs on steamdeck but i'm spoiled by my desktop so I play it on the pc.

But yeah it runs pretty decent actually on the steam deck, i would suggest lowering settings if you want to play on a competitive pvp server cause it can get pretty intense with all the explosions going on with modded helicopters and stuff.

alot of the playerbase are xbox players too and they make the gamepad work.

infact flying is easier with a gamepad then kb+m for me, so when i fly something i switch to gamepad that i keep plugged into pc

also make sure you have a mic or blue tooth to use cause pretty much most people chat ingame and when ur new youll probably ask alot of control questions for gamepad users.

the experimental game update runs a lot better than the current live, so consider future updates to the games performance. Bohemia with reforger has a very good track record thus far

Runs better you say? Cool! Any guess as far as a percentage goes?

Even my 4090 and 5800X3D are struggling at times. In 4k, yeah, but boy this game is surprising with how much of a hog it is.

On a steam deck in a local scenario filled with AI, particle FX, it gets 45-55 FPS on all low settings at 1280x800
Live game gets maybe up to 40, same settings
Nobody plays experimental online and casually, so we'll have to wait until the live release to determine online performance.

Also, I'd look at modifying your settings. I know you're running a 5800x3d and 4090, but there's probably little difference between max/high/medium, yet they tax your GPU far more. Native 4k is pretty tough to run considering this is native 4k and not upscaled crap like DLSS or TAA dependent nonsense. You could easily get 100+ consistent FPS at 4k with modified visual settings.
