Coming from arma 2, arma 3. Mainly wasteland/warlords enjoyer. And ofcourse dayz mod enjoyer, thats what originally got me into arma.

Any recommendations on what should i play and what mods should i look into?

And one big thing was the reforger tools, i want to get into map creation. Do i need to install the tools as seperate thing?

The dark gru servers are the best for the modded servers. They just use conflict as their main but it's modded and has more players. I was a warlords player as well and it feels like this without the fast travel.

Also ranger battalion servers are also good. They are mostly PvE and game master with one PVP server. It's more milsim than matc lh based if you play like that.

Vietnam servers are pretty much the same thing but in Vietnam.

I haven't messed with day z enough but I know the servers are there. I just suggest looking for the most populated one and giving it a shot.

In terms of wasteland ' aka the best thing in Arma ' I haven't seen anything yet that resembles that. It plays great but it's limited in regards to modes from what I have seen.

The tools are a separate download, yes. Just look for "Arma Reforger Tools" in your tools library and install them. It's not very big compared to the game, maybe 200mb.

I buyed this game last week and i need to say i enjyo PVE servers. Especially 2 american servers with really nice people in it.

If u just got the game, i have good news to you before downloading any tools and mods. This Arma has a game mode by default that is actually enjoyable (conflict), unlike previous titles (at least for me)! Try it first!

some communities are very restrictive regards what u can do but there are lax ones. example some dont allow tapping in enemy comms, dress as enemy etc some even dont like you shoot AT-mines on the ground apparently.
