Be warned, there's a learning curve (endless, if you will by modding, creating, etc ... ).
Maybe check some videos about the gameplay.
ArmA 3 have full content for solo playing, ArmA Reforger is essentially PvP for now but will have some solo content too ... .
It's not neccesarily more "casual" but it's definitely streamlined, even console players can play it now.
Arma 3 has more depth but also requires way more investment (time, learning, networking if you want clanbased content).
Few tips from my too many hours in arma 3, Helicopter down rutter is ctrl or z, cant remember but either or place it on your mouse thumb button. This way you can land and what not easier than playing finger twister on your keyboard and accidently hitting autohover (x). If you have 2 buttons make the other numpad enter, this toggles 1st and 3rd person quickly instead of having to reach over and press numenter every time you wanna switch. Also grass in arma 3 is bad, and you can turn your settings down to make it disappear which is a huge tactical advantage when the AI are capable of shooting through tall grass and bushes before you can even see them. Try not to hit trees, especially the small ones that look weak, some of them are made of titanium. Last but not least,if you think a building is occupied, by AI, not other players because that would be immoral, you can go 3rd person and lean into the walls to see inside lol. Ar
Arma 3 is amazing, so many fun toys to use and mods to play. Literally every military related item is in that game. Fighter jets, attack choppers, bombers, submarines, battleships, and even mechs. Mods will keep that game going until Arma 4 releases, and probably beyond that. Good luck and enjoy.
For coop, Arma3.
For singleplayer, Arma3.
Be sure to have a fast cpu though(Single core clock and ipc).
, so I cannot tell about Arma3 but I am happy with Arma Reforger. It is actually good , nice graphics, good sandbox, old battlefield vibe which I like the most of Reforger now.
Only downside for me is lack of armored vehicles, and proper singleplayer campaign.
It has TONS of singleplayer content especially if you buy some DLCs and \ or CDLC's (Laws of War, Tact-Ops, Tanks, Western Sahara) or if you download stuff from Steam Workshop.
It has depth, dynamics, quality & scale Reforger may only dream of. It is a complete battlefield sim, unlike Reforger which is missing half of BASIC stuff, let alone stuff like drones.
Get ARMA 3, rebind keys so you feel comfortable, grab JSRS, BlastCore and RS Rain Textures and just go for it man. The game will swallow you and graphics are pretty good to this day.
A3 & it's workshop has whole campaigns, dynamic campaigns, SP missions.
