anyways, with Reforger being the showcase for Arma4, i was really expecting more in that direction.

because, what if someone lies down not inside, but behind of a field?
he would still be visible then by the player 150+m away, while he himself would have his view obscured by the field/grass.
Eh, they just happen to make sure most places with grass can not be seen beyond where the grass culls out. Actually, I think its just a happy quiescence. All games like these need to do grass as not concealment but as a beauty pass unless it never culls out like a bush in smaller patches. I have no idea why at this point why have long grass you can go prone in if it just culls out at 100-200 meters. Just dont. Make it lawn height and be done with it. Make grass patches that are designed and intended to be concealment that dont for performance reasons placed everywhere. Just where it makes sense for game play, like brush and bushes are often used...
In the OLD Arma/OFP days they sunk the player 3/4 into the ground when culled out. Was not perfect but a bit better than like most games. But still.... just dont. Keep beauty grass lawn height and cull it out like always. Make detail grass that does not cull out placed by hand for game play reasons. Simple. we are all now happy.
yes, unless you want more than simple grass as vegetation.
and even then, wild grass doesnt look like shaped football fields.
There are ways around around making it look like a manicured lawn. Like majority of the stuff goes say, halfway up a boot, and random blades of grass go up to top of the boot. But the player will never ever think they are concealed in a field when prone. And it looks not stupid. =/ Or wind swept grass..... You know, do art stuff with an eye at performance with game play stuff. Ie...making a game that works. Culled grass at 300 meters does NOT work as a game play element when trying to do infantry stuff. WHich is like what? 80 percent of Arma? Kind of a non-starter.
"grass draw distance", as written in the title refers to every kind of vegetation that disappears at 150m.
it is called that way in the game`s graphics options.
wether it is wild grass of any sort or the fields shown in my video demonstration, .... thats what im talking about.
gameplay would change drastically IF the wheat(?)field in the video wouldnt just dissapear(as it should not be) for one player while the other one has his sight obscured(as it should be).
The exception is when a player 200 meters away can not see a player laying in beauty grass when the terrain does not allow that view. Its basic FPS stuff meets cover and concealment. Or we all treat grass as a thing that never conceals you except those that do not know that the guy that turned their grass down to 50 meters on a slight rise 100 meters away can pop this player at will. Which is BS.
