If you're looking for something more SSX-like then this upcoming game might be the better choice:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2743850/
But Shredders is still worth a shot with the right expectations.
I also used to love SSX when I was growing up, however now I simply just don't enjoy playing Arcade Games. I have tried and tried and tried for several years, but by about the 20 minute mark I close down the Game.
I tend to find my enjoyment now with more of a Challenge in a realistic way, rather than just "doing crazy out of this world tricks", which don't get me wrong, Shredders is a hybrid of Arcade and Sim, so it's not really that challenging, but having smooth landings and understanding the rotations is where I found the challenges.
You can always purchase, and refund under the 2hour Mark if you are not satisfied.
If anything once you get the hang of shredders, you may find wanting more realistic experiences such as what's found in session skate boarding game. I'm hoping the next shredders goes even further away from SSX and Steep games. I think it's definitely worth checking out.
Atleast you're honest.
I respect anyone's opinion of a game as the more info I can have, the better. But I'm on the opposite side of this view for shredders. Shredders to me is the best snowboarding game we have currently and I put 100 hours in just for the free flowing vibe and meditative state I can achieve with the game. I bought steep after hoping to have a similar experience and I think i played 15 minutes of it and haven't returned.
I can understand people maybe preferring a different style of game as some may prefer more of the cartoon like and highly stylized point style games instead of a simulation like experience. However thinking if people spent 5 dollars and being ripped off I just cannot understand.
The developers are always taking feedback, answer questions and give updates and the game has gotten a fair amount of free content post launch while having the base price be more than reasonable even at full asking. I'm one of the more critical posters in these forums given my jaded thoughts of the gaming industry, however this studio truly stands out as one of the good ones for those reasons mentioned.
