There's some debate over whether it's better to play Before the Storm first, though it's definitely better to hold off on playing the bonus episode, Farewell, until after you've played the first game.
There's also some non-chronological presentation within the games - in the first game, Max has time manipulation powers, so things get timey-wimey - and there are flashbacks in other games too, so trying to do things strictly chronologically is definitely impractical - and probably impossible considering there are certain points in the timeline that we visit multiple times.
Before the Storm (strong recommendation to not play the bonus episode "Farewell" until after Life Is Strange)
