They shouldn't have changed Max's power
It's just dumb. I guess they'll say it's "like the scene in ep 5 in the diner", but I don't like it.

they shouldnt have brought Max back without dontnod anyway, just a tactic to get people to buy the game and be interested in it.

I think they had too for the sake of variety in the gameplay.

wdym? i think the whole series brings alot of ways for the devs to bring variety with different powers and users. every LiS game is different and only thing that is similar is the "choices matter" aspect of it. they had every chance to make a new protagonist with interesting powers yet they decided to bring Max back without her even having her time powers which many people enjoyed and would have liked a extension of it. there is no "they had to"

Oh I agree with that. I'm saying that they had to change Max's powers in this one, either because of something story related that we know nothing about, or they did it in terms of not just having the same powers from LIS 1, or make it feel too repetitive.

On one hand I can see why people would take issue and definitely think it would've been better to have gone with a fresh character with this new power to continue the anthology-esque nature of the franchise so far; that if its going to be Max it should continue with her reversing time since clearly they're doing nostalgia bait; etc. On the other it does reinforce there being a multiverse in place; can potentially be used to honor both endings of LiS1; and shows that powers can evolve within the multiverse.

I don't know, while there's many things I take issue with that are up in the air atm in regards to this game. Her time reversal powers are more neutral for me, if anything it falls more into the bigger category of wishing they'd just gone with a new character.

yeah, even more strange if you consider the fact she might not even get her rewind powers back and if she does then it will probably be in the final chapters as a lame and predictable plot twist which sucks even more that you cant use it in the beginning. this just throws a even bigger question that if you were to replace Max with a new protagonist that has the same new powers would it even make a difference, we know that everyone else is new there so id think that this new protagonist would fit in more then the current Max.

It's particularly disappointing for me since the Rewind power was one of the first game's original selling points for me - the ability to actually do something about it when you pick a dialogue option and immediately go "Wait, what? That's not what I thought that meant!"

But, yeah, my general approach is to treat new Max as a new character who happens to have the same name and voice, a similar backstory, and a vaguely similar appearance.

Yeah that's what I don't like about it either. Seems like a rule change.

The more of the game I see the more I come away thinking its not even neutral (being able to swap out Max or a new protag with no effect); but that a new protag would be BETTER. I love Hannah and having her back, but there's so many issues with having Max return in this game as an MC. They could've had her as a side-character to be part of a new protag's journey, which would alleviate at least a portion of the issues; as well as an interesting potential angle if side-character Max found out about new protag having powers. Having a sort of mentor-ish aspect as Max would have the experience from LiS1 with her powers. Like I actually like what's been shown of the powers, just not for Max.

I do get that. But if they wanted to replace time rewinding with something else to prevent stagnation they REALLY needed to replace it with something very good. LiS2 you don't get control over the power. Basically not a gameplay mechanic at all. Tell me Why you get no control over the power. It's the same in the Deck 9 games. Before the Storm: No control. True Colors: No control. They went from "Here's this super cool power that you can use almost whenever" to "haha you thought you'd get to control a cool power"!

I'll take stagnation of the time powers over basically no power at all.

Oh yeah totally. Best thing to happen: a new power that actually does something gameplay wise. Been wanting this for years. Tell Me Why got the closest, but they just had to make the player not be able to use it to change outcomes or anything lol.
yea its not max its is some one else
