I mean I feel the same way, I'm just saying in motion it looks less noticeable.
I beg to differ. Side by side you can DEFINITELY see the resemblance:

I think part of the reason why it looks weird is because it's NOT based on that model of Max, it's based on the concept art Max for LIS 1.
https://life-is-strange.fandom.com/wiki/Concept_Art_(Life_is_Strange)?file=Max_concept_art.jpg
Doesn't matter which is based on you can still see the resemblance and as one is older that's all that matters 🤷♀️
Speaking purely for myself, I didn't (still don't) recognise her visually, but the voice being the same (which is what matters for most of gameplay since you wander around staring at her from behind) means I recognise her that way.
Well it does matter because you're going to be referencing the model that you're gonna look at all the time which is the one in the game and not the one that was made for a concept art.
Yes she ages, but I think they aged her too much. She's supposed to be 29 but she looks like she's in her mid to late 30's, and the other changes that did happen took away some of the design stables that made her recognizable, like idk THE LAYERING OF THE HAIR LOL. If they had gave her a bit of a younger hair style, or mix this hair style with more layering. and then make the nose a bit more narrow, the eyes not as separated, and with the hair adjustments make the forehead not stand out as much, it would look great and very much like an older Max.
She looks more like Alex from True Colors lol. Makes sense since this isn't our Max. This is a multiverse Max/Alex.
You know now that I think about it the hair style is near identical to Alex's. The lips are also pretty much identical, and the eyes are a little bit different but still somewhat similar.
As if you make characters look 1 for 1 and than try to age them IN VIDEO games it looks kinda fake, like well you've just done the above.
I think Ellie's constantly evolving model from the Last of Us series is a good example of this - basically every time you do a pass of a character in a new engine unless all your doing is using literally an older model the character is going to look slightly different.
Heck even Final Fantasy 7 character models between Remake and Rebirth - both modern games have subtle differences between the same character models. My point is its very hard to render a character the exact same way between engines and updates, and when your aging them up a few liberties need to be taken.
Also everyone ages differently, I know people that look like their 35 when they are 25, people who are 40 who look 60 and 18 who look 25 (i used to work in a restaurant so I saw a ton of staff of all ages pass through). So in this sense you also get a little bit of artistic pass.
The majority of people that I've found really "hate" or dont see the new Max I've also noticed are more or less not happy either that this game exists I've noticed too so your going to be naturally bias against it too if you already dont like something IF that is the case.
I know this is not meant to be 1 to 1 real life, but as someone in their late 30's with insane nieces that are all teenagers now they look like children. I'm sorry but I don't think anybody under the age of 20 can be called an adult as I've gotten older - not in the sense of "life lived" but physically your body is LITERALLY still in development into adulthood.
So when I see Max again in game LiS, than I see "older max" it REAAAALLLY hit me that older max is ADULT Max. She might not be 1 for 1 aged correctly but she definitely needs to be seriously aged up to be in her late twenties physically.
sadly they really f'ed up on max's character in the new game
It's called "being older". Unless you think someone should still look the same 10 years later, especially as a teenager. People don't understand just how much a hairstyle affects your look. She had bangs and they covered her forehead. Here, she loses them and let's more of her hair down. And when you change an engine and art style, it's usually harder to maintain the same artistic consistency as an older game might have had.
Hell, it's why Anya in Wolfenstein: The New Colossus looked different compared to her look in The New Order. Hell, even BJ himself looked a bit different. Bombetti had a slightly similar look but also sounded almost completely different. I've seen the pictures of Steph in LiS: BTS and in True Colors. She still looked a bit different, if only slightly aged up and with a more expressive face. Perhaps part of the deal in this new game and engine is to now add better facial expressions compared to LiS 1.
