No game needs it but evidently the publisher thinks otherwise... so for me, regardless of the game's quality, it's gonna be a HARD pass.

Denuvo has 2 products.

One against tempering with the game files to prevent pirating, by using over the top encryption and obfuscation that bloats the size of the game and potentially harms it's performance.

And another against multiplayer cheating, that installs rootkit/driver on the user's systems to attempt prevent memory/runtime based cheating.

The multiplayer one gets hate because it has very high level access to your entire system and can be the point of entry for hackers to user's computers.

And raises privacy concerns as it has access to everything on your system.

Developers/publishers add it because they don't want pirating of their games, and don't want multiplayer cheating.

Denuvo = no buy. Thanks!

Yeah, Denuvo has changed it from probably having already spent money on the game to wait-and-see - I still haven't picked up Life Is Strange 2 because of the Denuvo.

i have had no problem with denuvo, and will have no problem with it in the future, but this is my decison

No game actually needs DRM, studies show that piracy doesn't actually affect game sales in any significant way, but publishers shove it down our throats because it makes the share holders happy, the only people they actually care about. Case in point games that launch on GOG still sell well despite being DRM free.

Best case scenario it won't degrade game performance, worst case it will be full of frame rate issues and stuttering, making the pirated game play better.

IDK why people continue simp for denuvo it is a horrible anti-consumer product that just adds a point of failure that can only make the game worse, ironically pushing MORE people towards piracy not less.

I usually avoid denuvo and pre-ordering but the LiS series is the one exception I make.

And this is useless against serious cheaters who bought themselft a DMA device, which cannot be detected since it's a seperate hardware sniffing out the memeory.
Or Pixel Bots on a Raspberry Pi, which analyzes your video output and gives a "correction"-position to your mouse everytime you shoot.
These two bypasses show what a lie Denuvo's claim about their Anti-Cheat is:

Catch all the cheats, not just easy ones

Catch all cheats, exploits and problematic game mechanics. Put an end to re-offending by sanctioned players.

I would assume it is just standard practice for the company. So they just add it regardless of whether they think people will pirate it or not. It seems pretty common for most game these days to have some kind of added software to prevent pirating or cheating.
