I just played once, told the truth almost all the time but not always. I don’t know if it changes something during this event, but I would be very surprised as the leveldowning is a narrative tool.

If you always tell the truth (always choose the lowest Link option) you lose nothing.
But it’s only temporary, you get all lost Link (and abilities) back before the final boss.
