Power is damage, and defense decreases damage? Who would have thought... But you still have no idea by how much, which is an important information....
Each attack roll compares attackers skill vs defenders skill. If attackers skill is higher, a 3+ hits. Otherwise a 4+ hits.
Hits then compare Power vs Defense. This can range from 2+ to 6+ saves depending on the difference. Unsaved hits cause 1 wound unless otherwise stated.
Skill 3 / Power 3 / Defense 3 / Attacks 1 is the 'base' statline.
I'd say they likely looked Unit Stats and Types, which doesn't include details on how the calculations are done, and didn't look any further.
