However, '... put many people off ...' is in this case a particularly subjective term, and I would suggests represents a distinctly small but vocal minority view. But given the apparent strength of feeling expressed, perhaps they should organise this art contest, lead by example and put up their own money rather than telling others how they should spend their own.
Thus once concluded, the prize winning collection of art can be presented as a viable and presumably superior, alternative, the use of which could be negotiated.
Perhaps this is a viable compromise?
edit: I should've mentioned that I think there would be people who would enter the contest for free if it was the dev's contest.
I would honestly rather play with almost no art than having AI art
Lets face it here we're all playing this to play Warhammer, the art is meaningless. I'm only interested in the retro style top down blocky battlefield effects like a WD battle report. I couldn't give a damn about how Dwarf Crossbowmen portrait looks or Captain ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ looks leading the unit
