AI RNG bias in campaign?
Just to put my mind at ease: Is there any dice roll bias for the AI in the campaign? I may be exceptionally unlucky, but 8x 5+ 8 successes multiple times during the same battle seems a bit much... Thoughts?

A lot of games use smoothing algorithms for randomness these days, usually to help the player. I've opted to not use that, it's "true" random.

You do roll a LOT of dice in this game though, so unlucky streaks are going to happen. I swear a lot when playing it. :D

Thank you! At least I only have my horrendous luck to curse at!

a friend of mine has dice luck like the AI in that game of yours xD but only for "Feel no Pain" rolls

It certainly doesn't feel true random. Had a battle today where i failed 24/30 of my 2+ armor saves while the ai passed about 60% of its 5+ armor saves... And that battle only felt mildly unlucky in the context of most battles ive played in this game.

That's how true random tends to be. Sometimes you roll all 6s on a 5 up damage save, other time you roll multiple 1s on a 2up save. I have days when I'm super lucky and the enemy fails easy rolls and gets rolled but I also have terrible days when I lose high level cavalry to zombies on a rear charge. It is what it is.

As a statistician, I have to constantly remind myself that these streaks are to be expected. The other key point I tell myself is that confirmation bias is a massive thing. We notice the times we get shat on, and don't notice the times the dice were ridiculously in our favour (or are already so fuming that those don't count!).

FYI I also swear a lot at this game (but love it).

We need to have multiple saves in the game. Losing a campaign because of insane saves by the AI makes me want to go and play another game. it was my first time at the end of chapter 2 and it stinks to have to start over again. Oh and I am not complaining about a free game, I bought the Reptilian dlc.

I've never had the enemy fail all of their saves or hits on the highest possibility and with 10+ attacks against the AI I've never had them fail less than 5 times. Which is absurd if it's true RNG.

Idk I've played quite a lot of sovl runs and tabletop wargames in my time and sovl feels very abberantly unlucky compared to years of tabletop play. Like dice roll events which were so legendarily unlucky that my friends talk about them years later instead happen like... every 2-3 battles in sovl. But maybe I'm just on a 60 hour bad luck streak and eventually I'll have some battles where I roll above average more often than I roll below.

You can close the game and reopen it if something genuinely mathematically disastrous happens to start the battle over. Might help reduce the frustration.

I almost burst a vein when i almost lost a 2v1 engagement with two units numerically and statistically superior to the enemy they were ganging up on, them roles were nuts yo

Dwarf run with 3 cannons 1 catapult, 2 rifles, 1 crossbow. All extremely buffed.

I just lost with the Reptilian Kingdoms again at the end of act 1. After a while I started writing down the Greenskin morale rolls. 5,5,5,3, 9(a miracle) 3 & 4. then when my last Stegadon started trying to kite the goblin mob they bounced the arrows off their chests like Superman. There is something terrible wrong with the RNG and the Reptiles are just terrible.

Gotta agree with the others, it is incredible how this "true" RNG can consistently give a single enemy stack 4+ rolls in the same battle with no spells, hitting quite often 12/13 out of 15 attacks on a 4+ roll yet on a 2+ roll the player consistently only lands 6/7/8.

Just had one fight, a single enemy stack nearly wiped my entire army as its the 5th node into the first map lmao, 15 attack rolls, I lost 4 units total against this one stack because it just killed everything with its "true rng" rolls of 12/13/12/15/14/15/12/12 out of 15 attacks for the stack, this isnt limited to this one battle either, my last run as the dwarves, the final act 2 boss was almost unkillable, it was only due to sheer numbers that we managed to beat it cos it had over a 80% success rate on saving throws at +4 and attack rolls at +3. I am yet to have a lucky streak in 4 games but every one of those games has seen at least one enemy fight like its Grimgor Ironhide

Am used to trash RNG as I play gacha games but this isnt rng, this is heavily favoured for the AI

What nonsense, played like ten campaigns through to act 2, not noticed anything weird with the dice rolls.
