Dunkleosteus thoracic shield

I'm trying to get the dunkleosteus thoracic shield for a gun upgrade but so far i've killed and harvested, with the knife, around 30 and have seen none. Doesn't it drop by harvesting dunkleosteus with the knife or am i just unlucky?

I cant say for certain, but 90% sure you have a higher chance of getting special drop from sea creatures whenever you harvest them at their best quality aka sleep smaller fish or use the drone on larger fish, or the metal net gun on crabs for example

unlucky, i´ve gotten rare parts by killing them and sending them up with the drone, i think sedation does not give you a rare part but you are welcome to try

Didn't know you can obtain parts with the drone. Going to try that way as well.

Yeah, the better the fish quality, the higher your chances of getting a part so it's a good idea to use drones if you're trying to harvest parts from larger fish. That's how I got a bunch of Giant Travally fins.

Did you kill them and use the drone or you sent them back alive either with the steel net or by sedation?

Yes, I used either sedation or the steel net to keep them alive for the best chance of a part drop.
