How does the star dynamic at fish farm works?
Hi!
Is there a way to only obtain 3-star fishes by breeding? Does the amount of 3-star/2-star fishes affect the descendant stars?

Im really confuses about how this works and id like to maximize it

I've messed with 3 star or 2 star farming over 2 playthroughs... and come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter which one you keep or send.

Some people say to keep only 3 star and they will breed 3 star, but I have found that both 3 star and 2 star fish will make either 3 or 2 star fish.

I could be wrong though...I haven't been tracking them super closely.

One piece of advice I have for maximizing the farm is this:

Keep 6-8 of the fish you want to breed each night. They will make many more than just a pair of 2. You will need more space in the first 2 farms because of this, so-

Get rid of ALL fish that both:
A) sell for very low
B) are not part of any good recipes

You can tell which fish are part of recipes in the ingredients tab at the restaurant. Fish I stopped breeding and got rid of:

Yellow Tang, Sea goldie, cardinal, flame angel, yellowback fus, lagoon trigger, blackspot seabream, emperor angel, bluehead tile, grey trigger, atlantic angler, white tip reef shark, & longnose shark.

This way you can focus on the profitable ones.

One comment what you have just said, the optimal amount is not 6-8, it varies across the fishes. For example, Dumbo octocupus seems to reach the limit at 50, producing always 10 octopus per day. Less than 50 will produce less, more than 50 always 10. With big fishes (sharks, hombult squid...) the maximum amount seems to be 2 per day, reached when you have 10+ of them. Little fishes or shrimps seems to cap at 80+, with 20 fishes per day, althought im not sure about this one.

Based on what you said plus what i said, the optimum strategy seems to be keeping the maximum limit for breeding and ALWAYS sending 3-star fishes to kitchen.

Wow that's a lot of dumbos. I never went all-in on a single fish yet, but I might as I discover more recipes.

Right now my best recipe uses clownfish, pyramid, blue tang & garlic. It's from Tohoku at level 15. It doesn't require a huge commitment of a single fish, and garlic is very easy to produce in mass.

Did you get a good recipe that needs hundreds of dumbo octopus?

yeah, best recipes later on the game need a lot of fishes if you want to enhanced them to lv 10. That's why i want to maximice the use of fish farm.
