Shortfin Mako Not Spawning?

Hey, curious if the Shortfin Mako is just a really rare spawn or if my file is bugged. Been hunting for it a while to get 100% Shallow completion but I've yet to see one, went through a full in game week before posting in case weather was a factor but still no luck.

Pretty rare, it only shows up on one of the map layouts, forget which one. I'd keep going about your business and when you notice the layout change, then check again as that's what determines the fish spawns(I'm fairly certain).

have you gotten the Shark Storm party event yet? they should start spawning after it.

Not only is it rare but also the developers put a note similar to this in the patch notes:

"Fixed a bug where Shortfin Mako would spawn before the Shark Storm Party"

So not only do you have to have reach the Shark Storm Party (Which also seems like the rarest party), but even after that you'll hardly see them.

There are a few different layouts it can spawn on but it doesn't always spawn.

If you want a warning about fighting it: This is probably the most dangerous non-boss creature in the game, it is difficult to defeat with just the harpoon alone, it is difficult to escape from, you'll want to go in with either a weapon to kill it or sleep it. Seeing as you're going for completion you're probably trying to get it in gold anyway

The good news however is it isn't involved in any recipe (except the plain just itself recipe) so farming tons of them to max out that sushi isn't worth much apart from having it maxed out for the sake of it.

I have reached the shark storm party, but only gave the shallows one sweep and didn't see anything new. So I didn't think much of it and just sold Greenland and Porbeagle for the event and was worried this might have affected if it can spawn or not.

I'm in the post-game and I need another Mako for the fish farm to have 2 of every single fish, I've done about 15 dives straight now into the shallows and I've never seen one. If they do spawn they must be crazy rare, all the worse when you figure you only got like a 50% chance at getting a egg even if you do capture one.

After 23 dives in a row I finally found 1 at 10m near the middle of the shallows. Weather was sunny, first dive of the day.

Keep upgrading your idive gear. I found they became more and more common once I upgraded my basic gear (but it could be completing the main quest line that does it too, just I've found, the higher/better my gear the more common it's become). I've now max upgraded everything and have even encountered the double mako map twice.... first time was interesting after facing the thresher. It originally was placed too early in the game and was patched. Once you head towards the tiger shark area / limestone caves you've gone too far. They don't always spawn but I either get one in the morning or in the afternoon, rarely do i go a day without one showing up.

Mine is maxed with the entire story done, their still a less then 5% chance of showing up from what I can tell, and they have the same terrible roe chances as other fish, so getting 2 of these things in the fish farm is a nightmare

I'm not experiencing the low rate you are with spawning but I agree with the egg. I only started getting them when tranq'ing the mako and then using the drone, I've only gotten about 6 eggs and they all have come from the 3 stars, never randomly gotten one with a 2 star.

Apologies for necro-ing an old post, but I am so stuck and it's driving me insane.

I am at Chapter 7. All I have to do is go down in the Control Room and, basically, do the final sequence. I've been putting off doing this until I've gotten all other obtainable Gold Marinca cards, however. The Shortfin Mako is the ONLY ONE I have left.

Apparently, I have found one, once, because I have the silver card for it- but I have no memory of this?

All my gear is fully upgraded. I have the final upgraded sniper rifle, I have the tranq sniper, the steel net gun, the modified hush dart.

To my knowledge, I have done every dinner party that there can be, I think? (Shark, Jellyfish, Tuna, Marlin, Cucumber, etc etc)

Is there a certain map the only spawn on? Does time of day matter? Weather? I know that it's in the shallows and I always do a sweep before going down to do whatever else I'm doing that day...but nothing. Is it REALLY just that rare? Is there ANYTHING I could be doing to increase my chances? I'm assuming, for weapons, the modified tranq would be most useful when going for Gold Marinca?

Any help at all would help so much!

OK so I'm replying to myself because I LITERALLY JUST FOUND ONE.
It was a Morning Dive
Weather was Foggy
Map was fairly normal looking (not red corral, or seaweed/kelp forest)
Map had a Limestone Cave feature- no boat wreck, that I could find.
Marlings & Threshers were also spawning- no Tuna (yellow or bluefin)

The Shortfin Mako spawned on the VERY FAR RIGHT of the map, exactly 22.5m down.

I have no idea if I did anything last night that could have triggered it (this was my first time booting the game today) or if I really DID just get that lucky.

Hopefully some of this info helps people still struggling to catch this shark.

I used the modified hush dart- hit it 3 times, and called down the little drone to cart it off so I could get my final Gold Marinca! (Except for the final 2 in the final place. And some of the aberrant DLC fish.)
