Killed a shark with my harpoon, got one star meat

Cookie cutter shark. Killed it with a fire-tip harpoon. I'm guessing the extra fire damage was the culprit, despite being part of the harpoon hit? This really shouldn't happen...

Nah, cookie cutter is just weird. Maybe bug?

Most medium size fish are carved after you kill them but for some reason the cookie cutter goes into your inventory like small fish. Yet when you tranq it or net it you have to use a drone to send it to the surface.

I think its bugged. It should be carved @ 2 star and not killed/auto added to inventory at 1 star.

I think that's simply how the Fire Tip works, it deals additional damage after the initial hit from the harpoon where it escapes. The shark's health wasn't low enough for the tugging animation to start and the fire damage killed it afterwards.

I could be wrong, though. I don't use Fire element weapons as often as I do Tranquilizers.

But I think I remember sleeping it but it wouldn't let me grab it like small fish and was forcing me to use a drone... I mean I could have remembered wrong.

Nah, it's a 'Small' fish you can just grab into the inventory when it's asleep, dead or if you grab it with the Harpoon when it's at low enough health.

If you couldn’t grab it then, either it was a bug or you were overweight to the point you couldn’t pick anything up anymore.

It's a small fish, so you don't carve it. It's a shark, so you can't use the hush dart on it. It's aggressive, so you can't use a regular net gun.

It's a weird fish.

you can steel net it, or max level dart gun it. I've gotten either 2 star or 1 star from harpoon, I think 1 star was from bonus damage like fire or poison.

You can also use the Toy Hammer to knock it out if you really want to, but that's kinda risky.
