hey, how do i use or sell the gold bars. they seem useless

You can sell items in the shop when you unlock it.

On the boat, you can talk to Cobra and select "Shop" instead of "Talk". However, this option unlocks rather late in the game. You'll accumulate lots of sellable objects before the shop opens.

Personally I'm keeping the bars and a few other things in case they become needed later once the game is updated...
