Timed Godzilla DLC is so stupid

Autumn and Winter Steam sales are coming, this is the time when I buy most of my Steam games.

I saw a streamer play this game a week ago, and I was thinking about buying it during the sales.

But I just noticed today it has a timed DLC that I won't able to get if I buy the game during the sales.

Because of that I'm almost certain I will skip this game and buy something else.

It just came out and is being removed, is it only there to increase pressure to buy the game immediately? seems scummy to have such a small time window

Feel like fomo, but I might just skip now. Maybe there will be a mod to put it back at least

The availability window was 6 months. That's not that small. I expect it's due to licensing costs - Godzilla is very pricey to license, and every single monster is licensed separately (and sound FX and other things are also licensed separately yet again). Toho Company knows exactly what they have. A limited time license vs a perpetual license was probably much cheaper, especially for a freeLC.

Agree, been debating leaving a bad review for that exact reason even though I love this game and have the DLC. Timed licensed content simply shouldn't exist. It would be one thing if it was just the cutscenes and the figurines, but this DLC has recipes that come with it. They aren't particularly game changing but it's still a major turnoff. It's incentive for people to just pirate the game rather than pay for it, since you would be able to get the DLC that way.

I think you can get the DLC in your library by downloading it, maybe steam doesn't let you do that though. But these are the last couple days it will be available at all. Pretty much a middle finger to everyone who buys the game after tomorrow.

Btw on Switch you actually can download the DLC without the game.

I'm not sure if it helps, but the game is on sale currently on Fanatical for 10 bucks. I don't mind timed DLC for games, but if it's linked to actual stuff in game (achievements/recipes/etc), I can see that being a problem.

It was obviously done to force FOMO and increase sales.
I don't like this kind of method but let's be honest, it's effective and working.
The game is out of stock on a few stores already like Fanatical.

It's a short term gain for long term losses. Bad plan honestly. Idk what they were thinking.

I understand the difficulties with licensing, but this just means for all future players the DEFINITIVE way to play this game is pirating it.

They should add a pirate DLC and then the pirates can accidentally drop the kaiju recipes.
