Issues with the uv flashlight

hi there,

thank you for making such a great game, relaxing and entertaining.

i have one problem with the uv flashlight, though. when i use it, it will only shine to the left. swimming right and pressing ZR (yes, i'm playing with a switch pro controller) will result in dave stopping, turning to the left and switching on the flashlight. its not that big of an issue since i can melee my way to the right, but:

i KNOW that it can shine to the right because it once did. once.

so it might just be me doing something very wrong or just some weird other thing. anyway, help and/or advice is highly appreciated.

after playing some more, it seems, this problem could be related to receiving damage while using the flashlight.

after getting hit while using the flashlight (i impatiently swam into the red thingies) the problem occurred. later, it was resolved when i was impatient again ...

gonna play some more to find out more (and learn some patience)

I had the same problem to the right, even in open surroundings without damage. Strangle it was gone after i paused, searched and read this comment. Now it works perfectly in both direction.

Edit: not touching the left/right direction buttons, helped this time. In other words only press "use" and no other buttons. Edit of edit: seams fails and random, not the solution

I believe a friend was having the same issue, and found out the right joystick was acting as an aiming device for the flashlight, and it's deadzone was off kilter causing it to aim always to the left. If you press the right joystick right, will it help?

You do know that people play with controllers on computer as well as with mouse and keyboard, right? Currently the game is on PC only so it is not on consoles at all.

Ah as mentioned above, it is directed where the mouse pointer shows.

Had the same problem. Here's what I found:

* Taking damage did not help at all.
* Using my mouse worked, but only for the mouse - didn't resolve the issue.
* Pressing the left joystick button reset it and resolved the issue.

If you're on keyboard and mouse - you need to aim in the direction you want the torch to face (ie, right mouse button), then click the middle mouse to use the UV.
Soz, no idea how to fix on a controller.

I'm having the same issue playing with a keyboard. Just hitting escape to look for this discussion and going back seems to have unblocked the bug.

Yep, just tried holding the right stick right and it works. Might be my Dualshock that is the issue then. Thanks bud.

Pour la communauté francophone du jeu, il y a bug avec la lampe / torche UV dans les profondeurs (d'autres joueurs mentionnent le soucis en anglais ici-même ainsi que la solution temporaire) :
la visée est automatiquement dirigée vers la gauche lors de l'utilisation de la torche UV en jouant avec une manette (cela semble être aussi le cas pour le clavier).
Pour débloquer la visée à droite, il suffit d'appuyer une fois sur le joystick droit. Pour les utilisateurs de clavier, je vous laisse tester les solutions proposées ci-dessus.

Happened to me and the solution was switching the Controller Type from Auto Detect to the one I was using (Xbox Controller)

I can confirm this solution fixes it - thank you so much. The handling with the other stick wasn't apparently too intuitive, maybe the help text when first picking up the UV light might need to be updated so that it can ... pardon ... shine a light on the mystery why some people were experiencing this. And thank you @Dave_CM for taking a look at this, much apprechiated!
