Help ! Amethyst has disappeared. Where do I find it?

I'm on the quest Sea People Language Translator

My last item to find is the amethyst. I've searched everywhere and I cant find it. I looked up tons of guides and its always in the depths at the same spot for everyone else but its not there for me. Im not sure if this is a bug or if something happened out of order. Then only thing I can think is maybe I harvested it before the quest and then its not there when I get the quest. Or maybe I haven't progressed far enough in the side quests? I cant find any info on this problem and I really don't want to have to start all over. Please post any recommendations! Thank you!

After many hours, I finally figured it out.. You have to progress in the main story first. Level up your restaurant, feed the special guest eel etc. This would have been good to know.
FYI if anyone else runs into this problem!

Additional progression isn't required like that, because the Sea People Translator quest *is* the main story. Amethyst spawns are random and not guaranteed to be in the same spot every dive, like almost every other resource node.
