Old save lost forever?

My wife has been playing this game and loving it lately. Last night she accidentally clicked on New Game in the main menu instead of load game. She force quit during the opening cutscene, opened the game up again, and tried to load one of her saves from the main menu. None of her saves were there. The only option was the new game just created.

When I look in the files ("C:\Users\{username}\AppData\LocalLow\nexon\DAVE THE DIVER\SteamSData\1250463654"), I can see 3 .sav files from the day before. I copied those over to another folder, turned steam cloud sync off, deleted the saves from the actual folder, and copied the old saves over, but they won't show up in the load menu. Is there something else I need to do or are these saves gone forever?

well the game gives you a pop up if you start a new game saying that all 3 autosaves will be overwritten.
If you never did a manual save or any backup, then yes its lost forever.

Edit: you also need to hold down space bar to proceed with new game. feels hardly by "accident"

She did have manual saves. There was no pop up or holding down space after she clicked the button, it just went straight into the cutscene. I was watching over her shoulder.

I have what I believe to be her old save files, but the game won't show them in the loading menu when I put them into the folder that the saves go in. Do I have to do something other than paste those files in there and get rid of the other ones?

What are the filenames of the save files? Manual saves are able to persist across playthroughs, it's only the autosaves that get wiped with a new game.
