Threshers are ridiculous
I can't Be the only one who thinks Threshers need to be taken off the crack, I understand that they are meant to be dangerous like all the other sharks but THEY all have openings to exploit while the Threshers are just on your ass at all times.

All the sharks that have a lunge or dash attack (along with the Marlin and Sailfish too) you can dodge and shoot them in the side or back and the Hammerheads "headbutts" i guess you could say, same thing: move to side, shoot it in the side.
However the Threshers have no such openings as their recovery from attacks is like 0.2 seconds, there lunges are quick giving you no time to move and ever if you do their tail swing will negate your successful dodge. Add in their hearty health pool and their ability to devastate yours, they are my least favourite marine animal to encounter.

A simple buffer between their attack and resumed pursuit along with a bit more of "tell" before they attack I believe would be an impactful and healthy change to their design.

Definitely agree with this; I want so badly to wear the gun and harpoon boost charms, but I'm just too slow and am not good at dodging. Wish you could somehow upgrade or combine charms; would save me having to get dumplings every dive.

These damn sharks should just be removed or actually fixed to work as real threshers. Stupid troll design atm.
Being FORCED to carry a lethal weapon just to handle these crackdogs is just a dumb design.

And yes im fkn pissed. Spent 1h and lost over 150 items from the frozen passage and all the way up and collected a ton of stuff(no fish) and then when i got 10-15 meters left to surface with 60~ oxygen left that crackdog comes swimming in from the side of screen and charges directly and insta kills me with his tail whip.
Seriously what the actual hell is up with their INSANE dmg and speed? It makes no sense at all that these guys are more lethal then a tiger shark.

Also, why the hell are they INSANELY aggro? Our character is a massive man, way to big for them to even consider.
"How aggressive are Thresher Sharks? Thresher sharks are quite shy and don't like being around people. They only target small animals, as they stun them with their tail. Therefore, they do not target people, as they are too large for this to work"

Is it just me or are they way more aggressive and spot you from farther away too? Like, with the other sharks I can skirt by them if I don't have ammo, and if they see me, losing them is pretty easy too. But as soon as a thresher's onscreen it's on my ass and chases me halfway across the map, if I'm lucky enough to have a scooter and it doesn't kill me in two hits. I can't even go to the left of the map if I'm not prepared for a brutal fight. And their meat doesn't even sell for much! Worst creature in the entire game imo.

I just started encountering them and yeah, they are RUDE. AS. F.

I play this game pretty cautiously I'd say. I have died maybe 2 times in 30 hours and that was on bosses..

I just ran into my first Thresher shark and wow.. they do not let up at all I do not think you can dodge them if you tried.. I had full O2 and I think it killed me in 4 hits.. I actually tranquilized him but unfortunately did not have an submersible charges left so he woke up before I could kill him outright and he killed me.. pretty lame not looking forward to running into another one of those..

I can see why people hate Thresher. They were like an endgame challenge, because mostly for us who were reaching at that point were not be threatened by whitetip and even tiger one anymore. They were fast and sometimes you will never see it coming. Their damages were massive plus with their quick and wide tail hitbox making them super hard to dodge.

but to be honest, I don't have a big much problem with thresher though. I consider it my number 2 hardest shark to kill. My biggest shark nemesis in this game is Mako, and I swear I begin to have my own vendetta with them cause how big their damage and fast they are.
(You know you were already dead if there's 2 of them on the screen)

But I agree, Thresher needs to be nerfed.

So there are even tougher ones. Great haha

I just killed my first thresher.. it took 5 tranq shots from my tranq sniper. Seems like it has a decent health pool. I saw a guy use just 2 hush darts to subdue one but I don't have those upgrades yet.

You are right OP - they are annoying AF. Sometimes if I'm not careful they agro from off screen and come out of no where to smash me. I'm just trying to harvest a few fish and specific resources and they are all over my ass!
Cryptic Noctem Aug 22, 2023 @ 7:56am
Seems they are fairly well hated. Im no fan of it either and taken to just killing it and leaving it. I wish there was actually something could be done with some of these sharks recipe wise as killing effort is rewardless when they arent even in any recipes.
StopItStepBro Aug 22, 2023 @ 9:55am
upgrading the basic rifle to the tranq one goes a long way in keeping those fast bastards off your back
Gralzeim Aug 22, 2023 @ 11:03am
Yeah I think that either their aggro radius needs to be toned down just a little bit (so that they're closer to other daytime sharks and don't come charging at you from way offscreen), or their meat needs to be made more useful (put it in recipes or raise the value) so that at least dealing with it feels more rewarding than it does now.

Right now it just feels like a pain in the ass to encounter one, and it either means you burn up a decent chunk of O2 running away before it finally gives up (way longer chase range than other daytime sharks) or you use up all your ammo and probably some O2 from a stray hit or two, as well as probably a consumable or two getting fully used up before the thing finally goes down.

Other daytime sharks in the shallows can be avoided entirely if you're careful, but Threshers? It's really difficult to avoid those because of their aggro radius and chase range, coupled with their high speed and relentless attacks. Huge difficulty spike in the Shallows when those start spawning, it's a little absurd.

I have dolphin necklace equipped 100% of the time. The "dash" Dave does without it is worthless.

Also want to agree on the Thresher, and say that I found it a lot easier to deal with once I was running around with 300+ oxygen - back in the 180 days it was awful, I lost multiple dives of loot to him.

Also want to add that if you have the HP to withstand the hits, you can just slash the absolute bejesus out of him with your knife.
HoLYAssAsIN Aug 22, 2023 @ 1:34pm
Dolphin necklace is a huge help with dodging fast sharks like the thresher. You can get one harpoon hit each time you dodge if your learn the patterns and stay relatively close to him. Apart from maxing it's sushi though their meat isn't used in any recipe so you can just dodge them and dash out of their aggro range.
Rhonox Aug 22, 2023 @ 5:21pm
The thresher shark doesnt even hit that hard. 4 gunshots to kill, you can literally just shoot it twice, let it hit you once, and then shoot it 2 more times before it can hit you a 2nd time even.

I find the Narwhal to be worse IMO
