Thresher Shark needs a patch.
Call this a rant if you like, but I've died to this thing more than any boss or other encounter in the game. I understand it's supposed to be a major threat, but it deals more damage than almost anything else and tracks you from off the screen through about 1/3 of the shallows. This thing is a killing machine and aside from hunting for certain fish I avoid the shallows all together for the much easier endgame areas because of it.

Why I think it needs a patch outside of personal play style or whatever people will say: This thing hunts and charges through terrain and around corners, often from off screen or the very utmost edge of the screen. This isn't a one time occurrence either consisting of the vast majority of Dave's sudden rescues. The Thresher Shark launches itself at you from 20m+ above and through openings you couldn't even see it through. Often, you don't even know it's a shark before it charges at you, corners you, and leaves remarking about the wonderful second hand Bancho sushi it just devoured as it picks what remains of Dave's guts out of it's teeth.

Please developers, if you read this, tone down this fish just a little?

I do agree that it's a tad overpowered. It's even tougher to deal with than the Mako, which is supposed to be the deadliest shark in the game. It also spawns in the shallows, meaning you won't have any items or an upgraded harpoon when you encounter it. The charge attack range as well as its extremely wide attack hitbox makes it a massive nuisance to deal with. And the stupid thing is that you can only damage it in the head and body, but not in its tail.

Another problem with the Thresher is that it also spawns next to the Striped Catfish shoal, and if you encounter both at the same time, you better hope you have both the Dolphin Necklace and Octopus Bracelet or you're dead.

The thresher shark kills me almost every time I encounter it, I feel like it chases me forever and twists around to hit me impossibly. Would love to do something about it. I finally managed Klaus and I am still running in terror and dying to a shark in the easiest area.

+1 to this,

Ironically thresher sharks rarely attack humans irl

I think maybe they should slow its speed or attack radius or the spawn?

Since i die once encounter thresher spawn next to a school of tuna and another shark below them and all three of them in between coral reef valley which extremely limited my ability to maneuver..

THIS.

Well, thank eff it isn't just me. I feel like something triggered the new fish (night diving, perhaps?) and I was suddenly outclassed by so much that I was dying within thirty seconds of the boat. Often. By schools of catfish, pods of tuna and especially the thresher. It honestly causes me so much anxiety when I get a glimpse of that tail...sucks when you're somebody that likes to explore everywhere, especially for ingredients, and need to get into those places. And it's relentless.

Also, why tf did they have to put a hammerhead in the boat wreck? Aren't those horrible crabs enough? As far as I can tell, you can only kill them one way. I won't risk trying a net gun, since the thresher and hammerhead exist now, so I lose most of my oxygen just trying to dispatch those, because they are also relentless. I want the LONE sailfish in the game. And the ingredient pot/silver bowl, to be fair. XD

Edit: Also, the new reef 'map', where the Limestone Cave walls are super steep and almost run the height of the map really effing suck when you have the thresher, etc in play. Feels like there's no escape route. There. I've said it. XD

None of the monsters are particularly difficult. Never died to the thresher myself. Maybe increase your max air or upgrade a wep. I may get hit but never die. I think ive only died twice ever, maybe 3 times, not paying attention to air and just running out. But thats a me issue, the game doesnt need a change

I don't think I've died to the Thresher yet but I wholeheartedly agree that it needs a nerf. I've been hunted for a long time by one when all others have given up. It doesn't even have any clever QTEs I can use to try and dodge or counter it. At the very least we should get some of those. I usually hunt it down and kill it quickly, sometimes without taking its meat, just to get some peace in the area.

I find the mako to be harder than the thresher actually. the thresher isn't any faster than the other sharks, aside from it's tail whip, and doesn't have a particularly large hit box like the tiger shark. the mako on the other hand, is both faster and turns better than any other shark, so without a scooter it's by far the hardest shark to avoid with the exception of Klaus.

I hate the thresher shark. It detects from too far away, follows faster and longer than any other shark, its whip deals too much damage, and follows through with an additional hit. Bosses are easier to deal with. It'd make sense if it gave something worth while for dishes. Difficult for no reason. I'm at the epilogue of the game and everything (Idiver) is maxed, it's op.

What resolution do you play at? I play 1440 and it doesn't track from offscreen at all.

I agree to be honest. I feel like it should be a rarer spawn rate like the Shortfin Mako.

Even though the Shortfin Mako is more dangerous, the fact that it's so rare means that you can avoid it most dives.

However the Thresher Shark is annoying as it spawns in all of the shallows layouts (except maybe 1) and it spawns 100% of the time in those layout.

To make matters worse, the Thresher shark doesn't even have a good meal it can be used in so it's not even worth fighting. It makes harvesting the plants (which are very useful) near it a pain.

How about having a Thresher and a Mako simultaneously attacking from out of nowhere while you were trying to line up the net gun for a group of five tuna? That just happened to me. Luckily I am end game now so they BOTH found out what a bad plan that was.

rather than patching them specifically id rather have them put difficulty modes in then, cause im fine with a little challenge

Good idea. Maybe even a "peaceful" mode or something where the aggressive fish like sharks only attack after being attacked.

If they are doing difficulty options, they could also add a harder mode too.
