Streamer/YouTubers with "Best Game 2023" Coincidence or...?

So, in early 2023, I saw Northernlion videos on YouTube, and one title was GOTY 2023, which I thought was just a meme. But last night, I saw somebody else's video on this game with the title "Best Game of 2023?" And when I opened the video, the guy said he's not actually calling it the best game of 2023 but it could be.

Did the devs pay these guys to actually say that? Because if so, that's pretty messed up.

I've already purchased the game, and I haven't played it. It does look really good, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

That said, I've never seen NL post something like "Best Game 2023" or "GOTY 2023" and it's a really weird coincidence that I saw it again.

I dont watch Youtubers, so I have no idea what you are talking about with them, but I can say that personally this is easily the best game of 2023, no question asked.
I have about 1000 games on Steam and this goes into top 5%.

NL has tons of examples where he calls games "Best Roguelike of 2023?" or "Indie game of the year?" so I'm not sure what you're talking about there. I love NL, but it's mostly clickbait.

Just from a quick search, some of his video titles this year are:

1) This might be 2023's best roguelite (Balatro)
2) 2023's best Vampire Survivors clone (Boneraiser Minions)
3) The best looking game of 2023 (Halls of Torment)
4) GeoGuessr Roguelite = Best Game of 2023? (GeoGuessr)

You don't know what I'm talking about? Okay, well let me say it as simply as possible so you understand.

From my perspective and in my opinion, there are an unusually large amount of videos with the title GOTY 2023 regarding Dave The Diver. Northernlion wasn't the sole person. As a matter of fact, when he did post that video in early 2023, I didn't even comment on it. I didn't say anything about it. I didn't even put much thought into it. But now, I'm seeing more GOTY 2023 titles, and it's a little bit suspicious to me.

Now, I could 100% be wrong, and I have been wrong many times, but you don't have to be so absurdly obtuse about it. It's not that big of a deal.

Why are you so offended? You mentioned two YouTubers to suggest a trend and said you hope they aren’t being paid to say it’s GOTY. I gave examples about one of the two, indicating that it’s probably a coincidence and you have nothing to worry about. You call me obtuse. What am I missing?

I mean, it IS about whether Dave the Diver is actually good or not though? It's a fantastically well done game which is why people are praising it and you would know if you had actually played it. Instead you make a baseless accusation about it and think the devs need to respond to you to prove you wrong all because you saw some you tube videos. Maybe try playing the game first instead of coming up with weird conspiracy stuff next time.

The devs don't have to do anything. I didn't say they did. I've just known devs to be in their own forums, and sometimes they do respond to questions. And they definitely have no problems locking threads that they don't want to keep seeing! lmao

Anyway, if the game is GOTY material, great! I made a great purchase... and I supported the devs when the game was in EA. So, whatever.

idk anything about the youtube vids other than clickbait titles being super common, i do know that the game is incredibly fun and the praise it's received in the reviews are warranted, treat yourself and play it already instead of arguing with unknowns

In my opinion. this is by far my game of the year 2023.

I felt emotionally touched by a lot of the story elements. I adore Dave's character and the gameplay loops are absolutely amazing

I have completed the game and feel full by this point so I think my week long binge is over. However I think it is worth what I payed for it and more. I am left with such joy from the ending and I long for more of the game.

This game may not be for everybody. but for me. it is a masterpiece.
