Help with Tuna

Every time I see tuna in the ocean, Cobra didn't offer net bomb and I don't have my net gun. Every time I equip my net gun or have the net bomb, there's no tuna in the ocean. I haven't caught tuna since the first event, it's so sad. I even swim through the whole ocean looking for the netgun if tuna is spawned and I brought the wrong gun, but I can't find the right gun ever. I just can't get tuna, am I the only one running in to this? Is there something I'm missing? There's no way I have to bring the netgun every time I go in to the ocean just for the small chance the tuna might spawn right?

Netguns don't work on tuna anyways.

If you don't get the steel net bomb trap the only way to get tuna is to kill it w/ gun/harpoon (only gives akama and chu-toro). The only way to get o-toro is to have the steel net bomb or a tranq upgrade to gun/harpoon (not the hush dart).

If you catch enough of them you'll eventually get roe that can be used to raise them at the fish farm though.

Also if you fully upgrade the netgun into the steel netgun, you can then net them with that (and virtually all non sharks, it's the same net as the steel net bomb).

that steel netgun is later into the game, i recommend the shotgun tranq i think its axel or something upgrade that into a tranq..... gotta farm the squids tho to get cuttlefish fragments for the upgrade but it's worth while.
you get easy tuna,sharks sword fish etc only trouble you're gonna have is with not having enough drones.

I see! Thank you guys, I will try the triple axel tranq gun. Last question though, doesn't that mean I'll just have to carry that tranq gun with me everytime I dive? Isn't that horrible design? I have to bring a weaker gun just for a small chance of tuna spawn?

you can use the tranq gun on anything..... harpoon most of your fish.
guns are mostly meant to weaken the fish then harpoon.

that tranq shotgun has been a money maker for me it one shots all creatures shark to narwhals so far. if you're killing the fish you're doing it wrong

Only if you are intent on using a drone on them, which as was mentioned is only needed to get you otoro tuna. Otherwise you can just shoot them and get the other two types like you would harvest from any other large fish.

The steel nets work, the bomb and the steel net gun upgrade (final net gun upgrade) but any weapon or harpoon with lightning (not shock, shock slows them) works great until you get a steel net item. Pick a spot where the school won't hit you and either shoot the lightning weapon or fire the harpoon and the lightning bolt jumps between them injuring a few at a time. Depending on the lvl for the wep/harpoon it will eventually notch down their health, the better the level the easier this method is. A good old basic gun also does the job but just on one instead of the school. With the tuna it isn't a big deal if you just get 2 star catches, they give you so many chunks that eventually you'll get the roe for the farm then it's even easier to get chunks. Rely on the steel net + drone to bag a 3 star.
