What I did was swim around the entire night dive area looting things. I ended up with 2 of the spare 50% oxygen tanks and found 3 weapon upgrade kits for my Underwater Rifle that I had already upgraded to the version before the final Death Rifle. With the 3 upgrade kits I wanna say my rifle was hitting for 70ish damage a pop? Can't remember exactly.
I just unloaded all 10 shots into him and used 1 of the 50% oxygen healers. The fight has an ammo restore pickup so I grabbed that and unloaded more shots into him and he died. Fight was over super quick and I didn't really do much dodging.
Beat it second try.
First time i checked out what he does mostly, and second time i picked up a gun inside the arena and defeated him with damage from said gun only.
Would have been nice though, to have an option to upgrade Dave's swimming speed.
The game is beatable without it, but it would have made some fights feel more entertaining as well as speeding up grinding for missing fish roe.
Edit:
In regards to why some fights are the way the are: you are playing a human being, an animal designed to dwell and thrive on land, who is engaging an aquatic animal in it's home environment, where it's species has lived for hundreds/thousands/millions of years (and in this case an apex predator no less).
I would assume this is why he is designed this way.
But that's totally on me. My own fault for doing it this way.
Yet, the boss fight in the vents, the one directly after John Watson, was a bit frustrating to do, even with the charm equipped.
Didn't take that many attempts, but it wasn't quite fun with the movement speed provided.
The max damage one will kill Klaus in 5-6 shots depending on your charms, you can kill it before it even attacks...
Also stop using that useless "Dash charm" , +15% gun or harpoon damage is better in every situation.
No, just no.
I see comments like that everywhere in this forum, I know common sense is a thing of the past, but come on...
Killing Klaus only using melee is hard. Killing Klaus with a Sniper rifle takes 15 seconds and no skill.
Every boss encounter that allowed me to use that gun turned to a joke. Mantis shrimp, I was exchanging blows and won. Helicoprion, I just ran as close as I needed and killed it w/o playing the mechanics w/ Suwan. Kronosaurus, Didn't even bother w/ the missile pod.
Keep him lines up to just his nose is visible on the edge of the screen, and he will do the charge attack. Swim up/down a little and prepare to shoot while he passes. Then swim away, line him up at edge of the screen, dodge and repeat. When he does the whirlwind, just hover around the middle.
If you fail to dodge the charge and get stuck next to him, then it's bad. Just stay away from close quarters and keep dodging the charge attack.
It is really not a hard boss fight if you do as I said.
and that the weapon allows to just spam attack because klaus's attacks are difficult to impossible to avoid (unless with seamoth).
