Fish roe

Do you need to actually take the fish back with you in order to get their roe?
Or can you simply kill them/ capture them, have them in your inventory for a second and discard them into the ocean without taking it back to the boat and still have a chance to get roe?

I believe you only get the roe from the fish you have in your inventory as you leave. And the chance depends on the quality

Yes, you need to take the fish back with you for a chance at roe. You do not get credit for discarded fish, only those brought back to the boat.

Argh! I have wasted my life. I genuinely thought it was fish caught, do not remember anything about bringing them back. I have honestly done so many dives just filling up my inventory, then dumping them, from fish to fish, section to section...I kinda want to shoot myself with Daves' Death Rifle.
