3 star fish at the fish farm

Do all fish eventually turn into 3-star fish[if left in the tank/farm] or do they come 3-star or not and never 'evolve' into 3 stars? You would hope that if you kept only 3-star fish[2], they would breed only 3-star, or is it RNG as to whether they spawn as 3 stars, negating any 'growth' cycle/time in the farm?

They never evolve or anything. Think it's just random

3 stars can breed 3 stars (sometimes), 2 stars will never breed 3 stars.
(pretty sure about that, I had a pretty big shrimps farm running, lol)

That is not true at all. You still be able to get 3 star fish out of 2 star fish. Maybe different rng but 3 star fishes do pop out.

Yeah had a 3 star tiger shark spawn just last night myself. It's definitely not common.

I always keep 2 of the highest grade fish and cull the rest. This has lead to all my pools being full of only 3-stars. The 3 stars produce mostly 2-stars with occasional 3-star.

Thanks, that's been my new paradigm: keep 2[1-at least ***] and cull the rest. And hope that by keeping only 2 3-*, I can keep my pool of a higher quality!
