Not saying don't buy it, but just know what you're getting, and adjust expectations accordingly.
So hope this game will be fun/good because it is stand-alone.
Not a fan of Nexon as a company, so yeh time will tell.
Thanks for reporting in.
Though it's an old thread, I wouldn't call this necro, since it's still relevant (or even if it is necro, I'd argue it's acceptable).
It just came out, so there's always the possibility of shenanigans down the line, but that's usually with bigger games (like when COD adds microtransactions months after release or stuff like that). I'd be surprised to see such behavior on a smaller title like this.
Greedy korean p2w online game publisher/dev. Famous for publishing and destroying Mabinogi, VIndictus and many more.
It's one of these companies like Perfect World, Webzen, Gamigo, Aeria Games etc that did a hell lot of money a decade ago where low tier korean mmo cash grabs were popular.
In short: The main issues being their microtransaction based economy in some of their games and that a bunch of former devs made a carbon copy of one of their (unreleased/cancelled) games and as a shock to no one got into legal problems.
It's kind of in a he said she said area, but there are receipts and...
On the other hand... this is a really good game and the programmers/developers aren't the same as the Suits and management.
Mostly known for P2W F2P games like MapleStory, and a big corporation in general.
I have limited personal experience with them, having only played a bit of GitS: SAC - FAO[en.wikipedia.org] back in the day, which was... not perfect? I've seen better games, I've seen worse games. Had potential, but ended up pretty messy and killed off early. Don't know how much of the blame belonged to the devs (NeoPle) vs. the publishers (NEXON).
It's not inherently/necessarily a bad thing (there are arguably considerably worse publishers), but at first glance, MINTROCKET could easily be mistaken for some little indie studio instead of just a rebranded megacorp.
It's like if there was some game that looked like it was just a nice little indie title, but it was actually just EA or Activision by some other name.
Big publishers do this all the time, having different brands which obfuscates what's coming from where exactly.
Not everybody cares about stuff like this, but I like knowing what I'm buying (or considering buying), so when I looked up MINTROCKET and found out about the NEXON connection, I figured I'd post about it to inform others who also care about such things.
Thanks for the extra info. I don't know that much about them.
Forgot? What are you talking about?
Nobody's forgotten how absolutely terrible EA, Ubi, and Activision are.
Surprise! People can be concerned about multiple megacorps at the same time!
That's an important distinction, but it's always worth bearing in mind who pulls the strings.
I've never even heard of Dark and Darker...
If you want to complain about what NEXON does ... how about doing so by adressing the laws they are (ab)using?
You only hear about NEXON because of a few streamers, Dark and Darker and it being one of the most successful companies being active outside of Korea/Japan (their headquarters seem to be in Japan).
Seriously, you will never change anything by complaining on some forums, only by changing the law you could see a chance of that happening.
