PSA: If you're getting screen tearing, check your monitor's refresh rate settings

A couple years ago I upgraded to a 144hz monitor from a 60hz one that I started using as a second display. Drove me nuts for a long time, because random games that shouldn't have had performance issues were suffering from weird frame drops and screen tearing. Along comes Dave the Diver and, yep, horrible screen tearing that I couldn't figure out.

Turns out my Windows Display settings were defaulting to 60hz on the 144hz monitor. Getting that changed fixed the screen tearing and has fixed a couple other games I thought just didn't agree with my system. I feel very dumb right now because it took years and this game to finally figure it out, but hopefully this can help somebody else who might be having the same problem.
