Best Sniper Rifle?
Just wondering what the community thinks on this one.
Currently I use the Shock Rifle 2.
Dmg 65 with a 4 shot magazine is 260 dmg per clip. 100% chance to paralyze and decrease enemy move speed by 50% for 10 seconds.

I think it is the best option because of the combination of high damage output, a guaranteed status effect, and the status effect being very potent.

Even the upgraded version from that, the Thunderbolt Rifle, seems less powerful.
It has dmg 45 and a 5 shot magazine giving it 225 dmg per clip. While it is probably better for group control with the 35% damage transfer, my personal style only uses guns on larger or more dangerous individual targets. The shock effect also only persists for 0.35 sec. The most useful effect of this rifle, to me, is the 35% move speed increase.

It is hard to say if that static move bonus is worth less than the large damage output difference and the difference in applied status effects... I just don't think it is. Especially now that you can by move speed increasing dumplings.

Very interested to hear about other rifles (I don't have the stats for the Explosive Rifle or the Hell Poison Rifle) and how you all prefer to use guns. Maybe there are some more creative or interesting options out there I'm overlooking...

... but since I usually only use guns on individual targets and I think the best status effect is dead, the Shock Rifle 2 is my weapon of choice.

My favorite weapon is the Death Rifle - max upgraded regular ass rifle. Something like 60 damage, 13 round magazine, and a 30% chance for OHK. So if the OHK doesn't proc (which it does, a lot), it still doesn't take more than 3 shots to kill everything except maybe dunkelsaurus (you know who I mean) and greenland shark. But it does proc. A lot. And killing all the sharks in the glacial and thermal zones are cake. Great for killing anything.

I use the steel net now. Capture the narwhal and drone him out for 27 narwhal meats that sell at almost 500g each when enhanced. I don't even need the other sharks, but the poledancer shark (pol-whatever in glacial zone) and greenland shark are still good value. I just fight them with whatever weapon boxes are around and then grab my net gun again to catch fish.

Tranquilizer Rifle or Sniper if you want the shark alive, Poison if you don't as it deals a huge amount of damage between shots.

I was thinking fire would be the strongest on most weapons because if you increase damage with a few level ups during the dive, the fire damage grows with it.

Is this not the case?

For pure damage against bosses, Fire or Poison Sniper. Granted some enemies are immune to poison.

For killing Sharks and stuff Death Sniper can just 1 shot em sometimes.

But honestly you could beat every boss and enemy in the game with a regular Harpoon.

I feel like Sniper rifles are underpowered. They simply don't have enough ammo to justify the slightly higher damage. 5 shots vs 13 shots with the regular rifle is ridiculous.

The non upgraded is more than enough for the teleporting fishmon and that's the only moment you want to ever touch the sniper rifle.

Beyond that you want to avoid sniper rifle like plague.

If you want to pew pew - as people mentioned go for basic upgrade of the basic rifle.

If you want to capture stuff - it kinda depends on your goal. Either fully upgraded tranquilizer for extra large stuff or steel net for small to somewhat large enemies.

Generally however - get 2 of each fish in aquarium and simply decide whom you want more from there and let it spawn more and more fish.

Ironically in end game simply skipping days instantly is BY FAR most efficient way of playing for a completionist... mostly because a lot of stuff is tied to days passing by.

And if you aren't completionist - just go for the pew pew basic rifle either basic or fire upgrades, it will carry you through everything game has to offer with 0 challenge.

wtf are you talking about? the time it takes to retract gives ordinary sharks a good shot at you. I don't understand how you could play this game and think you'd have a chance in hell at beating "every boss" with a harpoon. its max damage is 40.

you shoot it after it charges... ever played monster hunter?

I've been pretty happy just using the basic rifle with tranq upgrade so far. idk if that will change later in the game, but so far it seems like every situation is like "well do I want to have 2 more damage and 5 less shots?" or "well do I want to have 5 less shots and be unable to damage anything?" or "well this net gun is kinda silly..."

The main goal of diving is to collect lots of high quality fish. Weapons give 1 star meat, so why use them? It's a huge loot downgrade. There are a couple major encounters and they provide more than enough firepower to win.

Any % chance tranq weapon is useful for capturing huge fish (the squeaky hammer is also % tranq). The super tranq gun is the best for consistent huge fish capture, but the tranq grenade launcher has some charm to it. Sleeping fish are 3 star.
The super net is the best all around fish gun. It captures huge piles of fish, it captures 3 star quality every time, and can even capture the weaker big fish for harvest.
