Not entirely sure what each direction means but it has something to do with how rested the seahorse is.

If they just raced it points down to the right and their stats are lower. If it points anything besides that, the bars are usually green instead of grey and it will race better.

The arrows represent their current stamina. It looks kind of like a gas meter to me. Pointing up is full. Pointing down is empty. The higher up it points the better their stats.

but what determines the changes? ive had a seahorse with a red arrow for like 5 days... he hasnt done anything.

Red arrow is the best arrow. You haven't raced it so it hasn't gotten tired.

so do you know if racing the seahorses makes them stronger or do they just basically never get better stats?

Seahorses have base stats.

Each day it's random if they feel good or bad or neutral or anywhere in between.

Upward arrows means they're preforming better today. Downward arrows means they are preforming worse today.

ohh so the arrows are random. okayyy. I thought it was based on how many times you race them. makes sense cause some seahorses are showing down arrows but are never raced.

thanks, Mason.

What I'm wondering is whether there's any kind if penalty for racing a horse that is already at a down pointing arrow (blue?).

You can get pretty amazing horses that can be a strong competitor, if not carry you, through everything up to B rank. I basically rushed through the team competitions by utilizing two horses like that, but now I'm wondering if it penalizes you for doing so.

No penalty that I've seen. Seems pretty random, but yeah up-arrow horses are going to have better stats so those are generally the ones I pick.

Before long you'll have so many seahorses that there will be plenty to pick from for the races.
