What is this shark

Suddenly, I'm facing a shark in the shallows that does 75 damage per hit, and is faster than me when dashing. It also tracks only, and doesn't rush in straight lines, so there's no avoiding it.

I haven't died in at least my last 20 dives. But now this THING has bodied me twice in a row.
It looks like a white tail, but minus the white tail. Crazy damage. Crazy health. Crazy speed and agility.

If it has a scythe blade for a tail it's a thresher. If it looks like a classic shark then probably the mako.

Yep. That is the Mako shark. It's suddenly there and no escaping from it. It detects you before you can even see it.

Yeah that shark with the whip tail killed me so fast, and it was the first time I couldn't escape cause I just got destroyed in seconds. Needless to say I steer clear of those. But I'm glad something really challenging is around sometimes...

The thresher is a joke compared to this thing. I kill threshers without an issue.

Sounds like a mako.

Anyone have tips on how to kill one? other than use tranqs and hope you have a sub available?

The thresher does ♥♥♥♥ ton of damage but is really slow and easy to avoid. The blue one, I think it is the Shortfin Mako, was my first failed dive too.

I like to find a platform to hide under, and when it pokes its nose out just harpoon it , then rush around to the other side of the floor when it gets too close to you.

Out of all the weapons in the game, the upgraded normal rifle was my go to. The final rifle, the Death Rifle, is a 30% chance for a OHK, a 13 round magazine, and if it doesn't proc OHK it still does something like 80 damage. Everything but the biggest shark dies in 3 hits or less, and OHK procs so often that even the biggest sharks get dropped in seconds.

But even before you get the Death Rifle, rifle II and rifle III are effective for shark killing.
