Love this game but
I feel like it took a bit of a downturn once you discover the sea people. The little find or fetch missions they give feel like last minute filler, especially if you’ve spent a lot of time just exploring and upgrading before you advance the story. Often they’re just boring af, like the sea horse finding mission (I just googled it, couldn’t take it anymore). It left me scratching my head.

The sea village itself is visually underwhelming, and long and boring to traverse. Given the state of the levels they built, it could have been so much more interesting and fun, but it’s just blah. The whole thing feels like they ran out of time or just got tired of it.

It also kinda feels like they lost the focus of the game at this point. I thought it was going to be centered around trying to save a sushi restaurant not a bland pastel underwater sea civilization. Humour is there though.

The puzzle levels are too easy but also boring, and the chef challenges feel like a mobile game. Not sure what could be different but they just feel a bit amateur. At least being able to fish or scavenge in these levels would be so much better. Having to avoid predators would add interest.

Still, I love the game, but it could have been tighter.

Anyway the game was 25 bucks CAD so I guess I can’t expect the level of missions will be the same as more expensive games.

If you ever played Yakuza, it feels like that. Just random mini games thrown in that feel hit or miss. Plus the restaurant part of the game takes a back seat once the sea people missions start. You can level up staff to Lvl 20, but I dont see any point except for completionists sake. I finished the game with them at lvl 7 or so and the restaurant was running just fine

Yeah, I feel the same way. Looking at achievements, 50% people got to the village, but only 4% to the next chapter.

I went it expecting "upgrade" game, but around the village it turns into basically a walking simulator

The positive I can take out of this is that I will be able to stop playing as I’m currently badly addicted.

This game and its fun little minigames were just what I needed, along with the atmosphere and humor, coming off some intense games like Hitman: Freelancer and other games who take themselves very seriously.

I laughed at the Cooking Mama segments, it was a nice break. Yeah, it leans more on mobile game design for its side activities, but I'm OK with that considering the novelty and rarity of those segments. It's like someone's first game and throwing in these homages to other games just to prove they could do it.

I think the achievement percentages may be skewed by Early Access. I only know of the game from 1.0.0 forward, but I could totally see "the next chapter" having not been available at some point, added later, and players haven't come back to it yet.

Seriously though, what are the rivers in the Sea People Village made of? Heavy Water?

I disagree with all of your points.

I agree with all your points. I literally couldnt stop playing the game but from Chapter 4, I play maybe 1 dive a day (each dive was around 30-40 mins). The quests are boring, repetitive and only very incremental payout.

I don't really get the quest phase problem. They are all pretty quick and easy to complete and while you're going swimming around you can snag plenty of resources along the way.

You all didn't overload yourself on weight and then slowboat swim for their entire duration did you?

I totally feel that. I think the first 30 mintutes of chapter 3 are the worst 30 minutes in the game. It's a bit of a hurdle that might lose some players.

They should change a few things to make it more enjoyable to keep people playing.

For one, they should tell the player where the portal goes before the first time they click on it, and also where the left exit goes the first time.

Also they should let the player know that using the mirror from the village will end your dive. I assumed you could freely go between both without passing time, since it's an instant portal.

Maybe also limit the sidequests you get on your first trip to 2 and give you a free baluga ride all day that first day. Probably move the seahorse search quest to the day after.

Simple puzzles where you have to turn a knob with nothing else going on in the level is just really, terribly boring. They go on for so long too. At least if there were fish to catch or items to scavenge there would be something else in it.

Also the seahorse finding mission? WTF is that. Sooooo boring. I was like, sigh, I am not going into and out of each and every building in this town, looking for a seahorse. There is literally nothing but drudgery involved in a mission like that. No skill, no challenge. Just in and then out, in, and then out.

what made it even worse is that one seahorse is in upper level - you have to go through portal. but i didn't you know you could use the portal, since promt was missing. i spent sooo much time looking for that last seahorse. finally had to find guide online. not fun

Yeah, I'll admit the sea horse one was weak but that is partially because the portal for me was bugged and I couldn't pass through it even when I swam all around it. Had to exit the village and come back for the portal to start working.
