Stuck in Gold Rank

Really love this game so far, but lately (the last several hours) my progress toward Platinum has come to a stop. On Cooksta I have 437/200 followers, Best Taste 230/250, and Researched Recipes 18/19. As I catch new fish, I upgrade my recipes, but my best taste doesn't increase. Also I'm not offered any new recipes to research since I can't get to Platinum. Am I missing something?
Also I got the Cucumber Event way too early and although about a two weeks of game days have passed, I still haven't met Otto. In the main storyline, I'm getting the parts to make a translator, so perhaps I haven't progressed enough to get to the farm. Any suggestions will really help.

yeah you def need to progress the story line, you wont be able to get to the high best tastes until you unlock certain fish/dishes

Actually best taste is less about "best taste" and more about the recipe being a high level. That's just amount of times upgraded. Usually high level also equals higher taste but level is more important because I've sold a lot of well tasting dishes that were barely upgraded and got stuck on that.

I've been upgrading as the opportunity presents itself, but the "best taste" number doesn't change. I now only have that to keep me from Platinum. I'll keep trying.

"best taste" means that the highest taste of a recipe you have is that number (in this case 230). you need a dish that has a taste value of 250 to upgrade to Platinum, so if possible I suggest honing in on upgrading whatever dish is at 230 (unless its already level 10 or the level 10 preview doesn't show a taste score at or above 250). I had this problem too, its confusing lol.

so best taste is the current highest number for taste in your menu. All you need is a dish (enhanced or not is both fine) to have a number of 250. You don't need all the dish to pass 250, just a single item on the menu that has <=250 in the taste :) hope this helps

What dish do you recommend upgrading to get to platinum faster?

I think I used the Bigmouth Shark Sushi from the depths. Relatively easily obtainable and only requires said shark to upgrade. Sells reasonably well in that stage of the game, too.

Thanks, I already did it, I was confused, I was tring to go to diamond, found out Narvals are kind of easy to level up

Narwhals are great for maxing out and getting the highest level of best taste.

I met Otto but it doesn’t allow me to progress to gold (I have enough subscribers), doesn’t allow me to rank up. I am at chapter 2. Is this a bug? Or do I need to progress more into the story before I can rank up?

Edit: My bad, my "best taste" score was not high enough.

Tuna week will get you above 250 easily. There are about half a dozen recipes - also leveling your staff will unlock the occasional recipe. :)
